My Educational Goals
How would this research experience help you to meet your educational goals? (approx. 250-300 words)
My educational goal is to enter medical school, and most schools search for applicants that have done research. The primary reason is that engaging in research shows that the applicant already has a high level of knowledge of performing in a lab setting, which I should earn if I want to be competitive amongst my peers. For instance, as an applicant, it is implicit that I learned how to maintain proper lab decorum, such as what to wear and how to dispose of different types of waste to avoid contamination of subjects. I would have also already learned effective group communication, which is vital to the successful and timely completion of an experiment.

In the labs required for lower division courses, I could adapt to the structure of performing a different experiment each week well. I could have a clear understanding of new methods of experimentation introduced early into the semester to apply them together effectively in later experiments. This helped build a foundation that I could further apply to upper division labs such as Cell Biology, where I was expected to keep track of complex methods while aiding in student research. These courses also helped build my ability to function in groups, which led to me being able to finish labs and reports on time and in high quality. The main personal strength that I have that I feel will benefit a research team the most is my capability for self-direction. I can perform well on most projects individually and get to work without the prompting of another person. I work like this since it allows for projects to get started and thus finished faster, allowing for more time for revision. I apply this mentality to when I work with others, pushing my team members to complete assignments on time to avoid missing deadlines. Though I am of the mind to complete work early, I am also more than willing to ask if I work on anything else that needs to be completed. School coursework has built up my ability to learn new information and readily apply it, allowing me to adapt to and excel in new

I’m attending Monterey Peninsula college on a short-term basis Until I transfer to a four year university. Education in my family has never been an option and I have always been pushed to further my education. I myself value my education because it will enhance my knowledge of whatever career I decide to pursue. Learning in general to me has always been important, I love discovering things I’ve never been introduced to or heard of before. Like Dr. Seuss once said, “The more that you read, the more things you will know. The more that you learn, the more places you’ll go”. I chose to attend MPC to explore my options and figure out what career I want to pursue. One of my short-term education goals is to get good grades in all of my classes this semester (my first semester of college) and to create my ideal career plan. A long-term goal of mine is to complete all of my…

I was able to work on two of my goals, clinical skills and knowledge base. During these labs we learned about pumps, blood transfusion, IV insertion, heparin and insulin protocols. It was fantastic that we were able to work on these skills because they're the skills that we really don't get much of during clinical. I am a kinesthetic learner so having that hands-on experience works best for me. I was able to explore IV pump programming.…

At this time last year, college application season, I had absolutely no idea what kind of college I was looking for, let alone exactly where I wanted to go. I was overwhelmed, confused, and hoping that the answer to “where are you going to college?” might come to me in a dream. As lost as I was, there were three specific things I was looking for in a school: study abroad programs, opportunities for service and volunteering, and a Spanish major. Those three things, now that I’m attending a college that offers all three, are some of my goals for the next four years.…

I intend to be a humanities educator who specializes in Christian religion, Greek, Hebrew, and Latin ancient languages, and philosophical history. I also expect to offer my wide ranging construction and technological skills in expanding my hiring credibility. I find myself leaning left on the political spectrum which is a positive for progressive schools, but puts me at a disadvantage for those that are historically conservative. The type of institutions I am qualified to work for are independent, private secondary schools. These schools attract parents who are seeking a quality and intentional education for their children. Often times, parents expect the school to shelter their children from outside influences and political ideologies. Although…
