Katniss in the novel is stubborn, short tempered and determined. Peeta is charming, a quick thinker and caring. But they both are self-sacrificing, true hearted and strong willed. The main problem in the novel is that the kids in the Hunger Games have to fight to the death, so they can win the games, and get home to their district. Once they win, you get fame, better food, and more opportunities. Many kids were not success in finding food and a place to sleep without getting killed.
There was a lot of suspense such as if Katniss was going to win the Hunger Games. Another sign of suspense is if Katniss was going to sacrifice Rue or if Peeta was going to die of sickness. The climax is how Katniss and Peeta outlasted out of the other tributes, and how they threaten suicide rather than fight one another after a rule change turns them from enemies into allies. On page 84 the Hunger Games had just began. Katniss was looking through the bag that she grabbed while she ran from getting killed. Then she was wondering how she was going to get water because she already had passed a lake. And she also was looking for somewhere to sleep, without getting killed. I would say this page does contribute to the suspense because people started dying already. Throughout the novel Katniss had demonstrated her ability to hunt in order to survive.
