MUNIK V
INTRODUCTION TO COMMITTEE DIRECTORS

Dear Delegates,
It is my great pleasure to welcome you to MUNIK V and particularly to the United Nations Development Program. My name is Khizra Jamal and I am currently a freshman at IBA.
I have been in the public speaking circuit in Pakistan, participating in debates, declamations and everything in between. That heady sense of achievement that comes with bringing the trophy home is a feeling you never really lose taste for and yet, accolades are just part of the experience. The learning, the bonding and everything that comes with competitive platforms have a charm of their own. When I got my first dose of MUN back in 2009, I decided it was something I never wanted to let go. I believe MUN conferences are truly unique as no other public speaking forum allows for a better overall learning experience, providing delegates with paramount geopolitical awareness as well phenomenal cross-cultural exploration, inculcating the essence of diplomacy.
Over the span of this conference, I have strong expectations that all of you in this committee will demonstrate exemplary performance, research, and dedication. I hope that you will all be thoroughly prepared to portray your country’s standing on the topics in a professional and commendable fashion.
A word to the beginners – do not be scared, speak for what you believe in, even if no one is listening (believe me someone always is).
We promise to help you find that leader inside you and we promise you an experience you will never forget. The floor is open and it calls on you to take it on.
Khizra Jamal

“Did you know that the UNDP Administrator is the third highest ranking official of the United Nations? Well.. you should. As one half of the UNDP administrators *cough cough*, I’d like to say simply this: WELCOME. UNDP at MUNIK V promises to be engaging, interactive, at times fun (Repeat; at times) and most pertinently, full of learning.

Many people argue that human are naturally cruel while some say no one is born with cruelty in them. After reading “The Perils of Obedience”, The Kitty Genovese Case”, and Darley and Latane’s experiments, I realized that humans acts based upon the situation and people around them in a case of emergency. Humans sometimes get confused on whether they should care about the crises or others will take care of it.…

A common theme that runs through both works is the idea of the American Dream, the idea that a man can earn his place through work and can attain the life he wants. These ideals are prominent in both texts and affect the characters in different ways yet it is often the success of men that determines how they are viewed by the world in both books.…

“Public speech is the most valuable skill you can learn.” That’s the line that seems to start every awards ceremony spiel, every college essay, every application for speech captainship...oh hey, look. But despite the popularity of this idea, I feel there is a distinction to be made between the value of public speaking, and the value of being on the Neuqua Valley Speech Team. Over two years, I’ve learned that being a part of this team is more than just learning how to act, write, or prep a broadcast – it’s about learning how to connect with people, both in rounds and in real life. It is about responsibility and commitment to something greater than yourself. It is about striving to bring out the best in people. It is about discovering who you are through teamwork and collaboration, and I want next year’s novices to understand that. As a captain, I know that I can go beyond simply carrying out tasks and…

Comp I was my first experience working at a college level. Throughout the course, I learned to take personal responsibility and to write at a higher level than required of me previously. With the new experience of working through an online course came several positive and negative events that I learned to overcome. I then used those events to my benefit as a student and a writer. Overall, Comp I had several advantages and disadvantages as well as difficulties that I had to navigate that have prepared me for the Comp II course.…

I have never really done any public speeches before and I don’t even really know a lot about speech. I have ever done a debate in front a set of audience instead, which have the same kind of environment like the first public speaking I did in class. I joined Fundamentals of speech to learn about what a speech is and how to deliver it to the audience, knowing that I might do it one day in the future.…

Living in America, we sometimes forget what a huge problem malnutrition and starvation are in other parts of the world. It 's estimated that over 852 million people in the world are severely food deprived. Now, imagine a world where no one goes hungry, a farmer 's crop can survive a long drought or an early frost and still produce a large harvest, and harmful insects and weeds cannot survive in the same field as a crop. Imagine a world where malnutrition and vitamin deficiencies are a thing of the past, because the food we eat is so much more nutritious. Some scientists believe that, through new technology, this world could be a reality in our lifetime. I 'm talking about genetically modified foods, or GM foods for short. People have been genetically altering foods for hundreds of years, but due to recent technological advancements, the potential of these foods have changed drastically. Many scientists believe that genetically modifying foods could help end world hunger while others say that it could result in human and environmental catastrophe. Although there are many potential risks there are also many potential benefits. Like the old saying goes, "with great power comes great responsibility." Like almost all new technologies, genetically modified food technology needs to be closely monitored and evaluated as it progresses. Ultimately, genetically modified food technology has too much potential to be completely halted.…

“ The true measure of the success for the United Nations is not how much we promise, but how much we deliver for those who need us most,” United Nations Secretary General-elect. The United Nations is an organization whose stated aims are facilitating cooperation in international law, international security, economic development, social progress, human rights and achievement of world peace. It had its genesis in 1945 where fifty countries signed the United Nations Charter on the 26th June in San Francisco providing a mechanism by which countries could meet to find solutions, ensure peace and security in developing friendly relations among nations as well as promoting human rights and better standards of living. From thence forth the United Nations as a neutral entity have lived up to its aims and objectives for the greater good of maintaining a stable political atmosphere. Contrariwise, there persist deep seated shortcomings of the functions the establishment. As such the pros and cons of the United Nations would be examined.…

Life is full of adventures and experiences. The key to living well is making these experiences as meaningful as possible. I went through a very significant experience, which was actually more of a risk, about two years ago. I was 15 years old and I had to decide whether I would stay in my hometown or move to Monterrey, Mexico. As in every dilemma faced, there are pros and cons that will try to sway you. Time wouldn’t stop and the day of my decision was getting closer and closer; the less time I had to decide, the more confused and undecided I became. All I could do was imagine myself living the future in my hometown or in Monterrey. But, why was I put into this situation? Should I have stayed where I was born and where I’d lived my whole life or would the best thing be to move to an entirely new city?…
