My Experience Being a Cheerleader
Dr. Allen
2/25/14
Thinking back on the day when I had my first cheerleading competition, it was for “fusion cheerleading camp”. I was very scared and nervous we had to cheer against fifth-teen different cheerleading teams that came from so many different places.

I doubted my team and I was very nervous, “it’s funny that I doubted the team when I was the team’s spiritual leader “, knowing me trying to show no fear and mercy into the fact that we were up next I was lifting my team up by saying (we got this!).

My hands were sweating and the jam from my hair was dripping from my face, everyone was jumping and smiling, yelling at each other. Reminding everyone to not mess up and forget anything.

So we went on and it wasn’t as bad as it seemed or had looked no one messed up! But trust me we got a work out, we got off of the cheerleading mat excited screaming we did it! And nailed everything.

We were praying and hoping that we placed 1st, 2nd or 3rd, because we worked so hard to get there by having practice every day of the week even Sunday from 3:45-6:30, we even went to flips tumbling lessons as a team.

It was about that time to pick the winners and announce who was the MVC (Most valuable cheerleader) for the teams, they announced JV’s division and they said first place winner is …… FUSION! I almost lost my head I was so excited I didn’t think that we would become in first place. They then announced the MVC for our team, I honestly thought it was going to be my best friend shydae Jackson but instead they said Ke- and took a 3 sec pause he walked to the judge and said how to pronounce this name...

He then continued and said Keshar Hollaway my whole team was proud of me and I busted out and tears and got my trophie… I didn’t think he was going to say Keshar because there was a girl name Keisha and keyana on the team.

After the competition I ran to my family I went out to dinner and I got a few gifts the next day, I got a pair of shoes and an

Everyone got in a line, and coach told us who was going to do the PKs. She called on Damien, Dominic, Evan, Bash, and me. Damien went up to the line while the other team's goalie got ready to block it. Damien kicked the ball right at the corner of the goal and the ball went in. We all cheered loudly and then waited tensely as Damien then got ready to be goalie. The other team's kicker went up to the line and kicked it right at Damien so he blocked it easily. Next, I was up to kick. I kicked it to the bottom left corner of the goal and…

And to finish up that inning we just got a couple ground balls and we turned a double play. And for the next few innings nothing really happened both teams were struggling to hit. Now it's like the 5th inning and we have the top of our hitting order up so we had:Liam,Luke,Ryan,Alex as our 1,2,3,4 hitters. And we got a rally going and we scored a couple runs so at this point the score is 5-1 and we have the lead so then I go into the 6th inning to pitch and I can only do ⅔ of the inning so than Ryan comes in and pitches and to finish out the 7th Alex pitches a 3 strikeout inning. So the game was over and the presedent of the league gave me the game ball to keep and bring home and everyone on our team got a trophy to take home after we won we were all so happy that we won the championship because it was or a lot of people the first time they won something. The…

I stood up and walked down the stairs to the court. The team and I went to the locker room like we always do at the end of the third quarter of the girl’s varsity game. Our opponent? The number one team in the state of Kansas, the Hanover Wildcats. With only two seniors, our team had a record that you don’t exactly brag about.…

It teaches the importance of certain life qualities and some lessons to take away. The cheerleaders compete at compititions against other teams. Knowing this information still makes people indecisive in their decision of if cheer qualifies as a sport. According to Eileen Lofrese (Macedo, 2010, para. 10-11), most people can’t decide whether cheer is a sport or not because of its inconsistency. Some schools may only have a cheer team that cheers at games, but other schools have a competitive varsity team. Coach Stevens (personal communication, January 20, 2016) says that she believes cheer is a sport that isn’t fully developed yet. She…

My cheer team, Spirit Celebration, practiced almost every night for the last month and could practically perform our routine in our sleep. This competition is what we prepared for all season. As our team gathers together, we stretch listening to our music over and over reviewing the routine in our minds. As we walk to the practice gym we glance at the other teams and laugh when they mess up. We performed our routine on the warm up mat perfectly. Walking to the on-deck area, we talk among ourselves with not a worry in the world. As we stand on deck we prayed not only to hit a clean routine but to have fun and that no would one get hurt. The emcee announces, “Performing now from Richardson, Texas, Spirit Celebration”, and it’s time to compete. The lights are bright and I can see nothing beyond the blue performance mat but black spots. The music starts and the crowd goes wild blowing air horns, banging wooden blocks together and trying to make as much noise as possible…

The whole team was mad but there was no one to be at but ourselves. We stop playing our ball and it cause us to lose the game. That day was an eye opener for me. I learn that day to never get rap up in the glory because anything can taking away in seconds. I learn to always work hard at something you want. If you want something you must go out and handle your business. Once you get to top never stop working keep working and striving to be better. Even if you're the best still push and…

We got together and told us that even though we did not place as we would have liked to, we still accomplished so much that year. We ran as a team and had good showings at meets throughout the whole year. He told us that it is silly to say a season is a failure because of one bad race, because we had come so far from the beginning of the season. We grew as a team and had fun doing it, and that is something that we he told us to be proud of because not all high school teams could say that. Coach Ernst always knew the right thing to say to me to cheer me up and get me fired up and pushed me to my best. He also challenged me to think differently and be proud of my accomplishments even though they may not be what I expected them to…

No matter what kind of day I have had or what day it is, cheerfulness and excitement springs up and carries me during, before and after the games. My passion for dance has also allowed me to create many choreographies for my school, such as a dance routine for our school’s panther pride theme song, football and basketball cheers, and chants, and entertainment performances during games’ timeouts. Many people fail to realize the true purpose and beauty behind cheering for it revolves around the art of choreography. My viewpoint of cheerleading goes beyond the fancy bow, the shell crop top, the socks, the skirt, and the tennis shoes. As I move with much enthusiasm and avidity, I become the uniform. Even though cheering has been something I have done for ten years of my life, I challenge myself to become a better cheerleader every…

Tight uniforms, loud voices, pulled back ponytails with bows the size of their head, white tennis shoes, and girls being thrown into the air, is the typical definition of a cheerleader but what exactly is a cheerleader? A cheerleader is a person who is a member of a group who shout out special songs or chants to encourage the team and entertain the crowd during a game in sports such as football or basketball. Is it a sport? I hear a lot of the times that cheerleading isn’t a sport. A sport is an activity involving physical exertion and skill in which an individual or team competes against another for entertainment. That doesn’t exactly make cheerleading qualify as a sport. There is a difference in what some people may make out of it. In some case people say if you compete in competitions cheerleading is a sport, but in other cases if the cheerleader is just the girl that cheers on the crowd for entertainment, this isn’t considered to be an athlete. A cheerleader that competes in competition is considered to be an athlete.…

During the many hours spent in the gym perfecting routines, stunts, and tumbling, I developed characteristics that are not only important in cheerleading but also in life. An important trait of any squad member is to be a person of good character. Emotions can run high whether it be preparing for a competition or cheering on your football team; a cheerleader must be energetic, optimistic, and composed. As the anticipation increases throughout the competition season, teams must continue to pull together and encourage one another in order to achieve the shared goal of a championship. Respect for other squad members allows the team to work cohesively toward a common goal. Cheerleaders develop friendships that will often last a lifetime. The squad becomes your second family, and together, the team grows and matures, developing life skills that will benefit each cheerleader forever. The sport of cheerleading teaches hard work, perseverance, competitiveness, and teamwork. Plus, the underlying qualities of a cheerleader, friendliness, optimism, respectfulness, and accountability are all skills that will benefit me in the future.…

In addition to competition cheer, high school cheer is another type of cheerleading. It is associated with a school instead of a gym. Most of the squads have one or maybe two coaches. High school cheerleaders also have a main objective just like competition cheerleaders do. Their main objective is to cheer on their school’s sports teams and raise school spirit. High school cheerleaders cheer at sporting events which are usually football and basketball games. Some schools are starting to have their cheerleaders cheer at some of the baseball games, soccer games, volleyball games, and even wrestling matches. High school cheerleaders use offense and defense cheers when they cheer at games. For becoming a high school cheerleader, you do not need…
