My Experience In San Miguel De Allende
Being in San Miguel de Allende was an experience unlike any other I’ve ever had. I was able to experience parts of my own culture that I had never witnessed before and I came back to the United States knowing more about my cultural roots as well as feeling closer to my homeland. As an educator, after a week of teaching in Las Clavellinas I feel that I gained an immense amount of hands on knowledge that might have taken me years to acquire in a traditional classroom setting in the United States. I feel like this study abroad experience has equipped me to be better prepared as I begin my residency as well as for the real-world once I graduate and begin teaching.
When my family left Mexico, I was very young and therefore I was not able to

The city was breathtakingly beautiful and it was amazing being able to walk around and take in the beauty of it all. Going down to the silver mines of Guanajuato was an experience that was very impactful for me, our guide told us about the painstakingly slow method of carrying ore back in the day before technological advancements made mining a much easier process. He also told us about “El Pipila” a humble worker from the mine we were touring, who was an important figure in the Independence of Mexico. Without a doubt, my favorite part of visiting Guanajuato was when we saw the Alhóndiga de Granaditas, a building in Guanajuato that is full of history. It is the building that El Pipila walked to carrying a boulder on his back so Spanish troops inside the building were unable to shoot him and he set the door on fire so that Mexican insurgents were able to attack the troops inside. It is also the same building where the …show more content…
The town and the school reminded me greatly of where I grew up and, I felt an immediate connection with all the students from the community. I learned a lot about what it means to be a teacher during those five days when we went to the school. Immediately, on Monday we saw that most of the stuff we had planned before the trip was not going to be the best for the students, so we had to make some modifications on the spot, I learned that great teacher has to be flexible and adapt as they go in order to meet the needs of the students in the classroom. This meant we would have to modify our lessons throughout the day because we were teaching Kinder-5th grade all on the same day, it was a very daunting task but I survived it and feel more confident regarding my abilities as an educator. I am excited to begin my residency soon and put into practice some of the things I learned this summer and refine my teaching style compared to when I did my internship this past spring. I definitely have a different mindset as a beginning teacher due to this experience and I feel that I have a newfound attitude about what it means to be a

Nido de Aguilas: Santiago, Chile. It had been a week since I'd gotten the news that I was moving schools and that I would be leaving my friends forever to move to a quiet country in the middle of Europe: Switzerland. I silently sat in my designated chair, waiting for my last day to begin.…

I met my mentor as I opened my front door on a brisk fall Friday night, November 11, 2011 to be exact. He stood at about 5’3,” which made me laugh a bit because I was taller and I would be calling him my mentor. The style he had was that of a preppy college student. The voice he had was so loud that it echoed throughout my house as we first chatted. Out of all the attributes that make up Francisco, the one that will forever be stuck in my brain will be that of his enormous smile. Francisco always figures out a way to keep his big bright smile on his face, despite the situation he is facing. Francisco San Miguel’s dedication and hard work are two things that have led him towards his success…

In 1997, after I graduated from the University of Baja California, in Tijuana, Mexico, and started my first job, I decided to take my first trip with my best friends. We were undecided on which city we were going to visit. After a little research we found the city of Guanajuato. We picked this city because it has a lot of places to visit and is a colonial city. Over the course of my day at Shepherdstown elementary I learned a lot more than I thought would even be possible. I witnessed both the good and bad moments during my one short day. Mrs. Austin seemed to have it all together, she was an amazing role model in the classroom and showed me what I should and shouldn’t do in certain situations. Observing the classroom showed me that I need to learn a lot of vital information throughout the program at Shepherd in order to be able to become successful in the classroom one day. When I started my day at Shepherdstown Elementary, I had mixed feelings. I was passionate and eager to be there but I also felt a sense of intimidation and fear when I started interacting with the students. I began to watch the teachers and see what they were doing. After sitting in the classroom and getting adjusted, my feelings had transformed. I started becoming more comfortable and feeling a lot better about where I was. By the end of the day I had a remarkable time and I cannot wait to have a classroom of my own one-day.…

Throughout my life, I have moved three times, lived in two different states, and been to five different schools. From these experiences, I have had the opportunity to meet a variety of different people, for this I am very grateful. I consider my first memories to have started when my family and I moved to Overland Park Kansas. The excitement of living in a new neighborhood, and house, was almost unbearable for my younger self. Once we moved in, I had a chance to explore the new surroundings and meet some of my best childhood friends. I also enjoyed six wonderful years in Elementary school. However, once middle school started, I observed the adoption of a more competitive atmosphere and the abandonment of standard teaching methods. This shift…

“Between the pages of a book is a lovely place to be.” One night when I was about twelve years old I came home from school and found my mom in her room lying propped up on pillows at the head of her bed, with a book in her hands reading. Suddenly, she burst into a hearty laugh that made her put down her book momentarily as she regained her composure. I asked her what was she reading that had her laughing so hard. She told me it was a book by an author named Sister Soulja called “The Coldest Winter Ever.” With a scrunched up face and through squinted eyes I asked “you’re reading about winter?” With a soft chuckle she replied “No, that is the name of the main character.” That intrigued my interest because I never heard of anyone being named after a season before. So I asked her to tell me more about the book. Once she was…

The year I turned six, my mom decided to migrate to Mexico. However, she was not able bring my one year old sister along. While my little sister stayed with my grandparents, my mom and I flied out to Mexico. I still remember the feeling in my stomach the moment I stepped out of that airport. I was an ocean away from my hometown. My first day of school was chaos. Everyone in the school was speaking in Spanish. I did not understand the customs and mannerisms. It was difficult to not feel as an outcast. The most complicated part was expressing my feelings, and my needs to the teachers. I lived in Mexico, Tijuana for six years, after becoming adapted to the environment, my mom came home one day and told me that we are moving to the United States.…

PURPOSE FOR EVALUATION: Rather than "Reason for Referral" the first section for the report is better called "PURPOSE FOR EVALUATION." This gives you a lot more flexibility. If you use "Reason for Referral", you pretty much have to copy whatever the consult says. Unfortunately, many consults ask questions which tests can't answer (or else they don't ask any question at all).…
