MY EXPERIENCE OF LEARNING TO READ AND WRITE IN THAI AS ARTERIAL LANGUAGE AND ENGLISH AS LINGUA FRANCA
True confession
“15 pages for you to write about your experience of learning second language” I never thought it would end up like this. At first I thought “May be, Dr.Pongsakorn just kidding and may be it was just only an assignment for writing” but it’s true and it’s a real thing about to make it as the final exam.
So I thought, if I write it as a Romeo and Juliet but he doesn’t want a love story. “How about this, if I write it write an essay like the Toy Story, that will be a little excited, or it’s not” It is all about the experience in learning L2 of me and nothing about these.

Source material must be documented in the body of the paper by citing the authors and dates of the sources. The full source citation will appear in the list of references that follows the body of the paper. When the names of the authors of a source are part of the formal structure of the sentence, the year of the publication appears in parenthesis following the identification of the authors, for example, Smith (2001). When the authors of a source are not part of the formal structure of the sentence, both the authors and years of publication appear in parentheses, separated by semicolons, for example (Smith and Jones, 2001; Anderson, Charles, & Johnson, 2003). When a source that has three, four, or five authors is cited, all authors are included the first time the source is cited. When that source is cited again, the first author’s surname and “et al.” are used. See the example in the following paragraph.

English is fast becoming the dominant means by which the world is able to communicate. It is being referred to as the global language as it is seen as a common means for interaction between different countries. This new phenomena can be seen in a positive light because the use of English as a common language brings efficiency and greater understanding. Nevertheless there some people who believe that this fact has changed and that now it is more important to learn Spanish and Mandarin than the English language. Anzaldua dealt with this issue on a consistent basis in her school life. Though she was not told to lose her Spanish ways, she felt that speaking English would not allow her to express herself. Especially in the American culture, it was necessary for her to learn English to communicate with her peers. Furthermore, the English language is the number one lingua franca no other comes close.…

Psychology was originated from the roots of philosophy Socrates, Aristotle and Plato asked many hard questions for example how the mind works. “According to psychology historian Morton Hunt, an experiment performed by the King of Egypt, as far back as the seventh century B.C., can be considered the first psychology experiment (Hunt, 1993, p. 1). The king wanted to test whether or not Egyptian was the oldest civilization on earth. His idea was that, if children were raised in isolation from infancy and were given no instruction in language of any kind, then the language they spontaneously spoke would be of the original civilization of man -- hopefully, Egyptian. The experiment, itself, was…

After reading “Mother Tongue” by Amy Tan, it was rigorous for Asian Americans learning the English language. The article discusses the different languages of English that Tan had learned and frequently used throughout her life. Then the difficulties that she had learning in school because English wasn’t her best subject. Additionally, were issues that follow along her, due to the way Amy’s mother spoke English. English as a second language for Tan was very difficult, but through her mistakes, she succeeded. When she became a writer, it got easier after she realized the variety of languages she had already spoke throughout her lifetime. She constantly used diverse languages with multiple people and had absolutely no idea she was. It became easier for Amy to differentiate and correct herself. Tan’s life was hard for her to become the aspiring writer she wanted to be. As an Asian American, to succeed in something that no one believed she could was foolish. And even though English wasn’t Amy’s first language, in the long run it changed her understanding of the English language. Tan’s purpose was to show us how language can separate, unite, or isolate those who don’t speak perfect English. Literacy should have no limitations on how people view other people.…

As an immigrant person who was raised overseas, the language barrier was my biggest challenge that I have faced in my life. As a child, I grew up learning Arabic and French as my second language. I have always loved to write in my native language. I loved how I can express myself and my feelings without even saying them out loud. “But, can I still do this?” a question that was always driving me hazy. A new language means…

Mandarin, known by many for being one of the most difficult languages in the world, is my mother language. Born in China eighteen years ago, I was raised in a Mandarin-speaking environment. Both of my parents have been speaking to me in Mandarin ever since I was a child. Mandarin is the language I usually spoke when I was in China and even in here I speak Mandarin with my Chinese friends. Studying the first language is a slow and natural process which is affected a lot by the environment. However unlike my first language, my second language, English, did not take a long time to learn. I learned to speak English when I was 8. Since English is compulsory course in my school, I had a one hour English class twice a week. I had an English teacher who taught me from everything from the alphabet to words and from grammar to sentences. But compare to the amount of time I spent speaking Chinese much over powered the time I spent speaking in English. This was of course an obvious consequence of being in a majority Mandarin speaking country. It is unarguable that both English and Mandarin, emerging from their starkly different historic backgrounds are extremely different in their linguistic and spoken styles.…

AEC is the regional economic integration with the goal to form a single market base. It consists of the ASEAN members and it is to be launched in 2015. When the barriers between countries are opened, the flow of goods, people, services, and capital will lead to the increase in regional competition. There needs to be a common language for AEC members to use for communication. It so happens to be English; no big surprise there. The English language requirement is a concern for many Thai people because Thailand is still lagging behind in this area. Several researches have shown that Thailand’s English…

If you could decide what to study, what would you choose between an international study program and English program? Nowadays as a developing Thailand, English is still needed to be more frequently used due to the establishment of AEC (ASEAN Economic Community) in 2015. It does not mean that Thai educational system is lack of teaching this universal language to students in all levels of education. These two programs are popular choices of studying for students and their parents’ determination. Nevertheless, the international study program and English program are dissimilar and have differences in curriculums, tuition fees and purposes in teaching which are needed to be considered before making a decision. At one point, the international study program provides courses of study to students which are not based on Thai Ministry of Education that has established, but those course are those outside Thailand of which depend on what country they are based from. On the other hand, the English program studying courses are based on the establishment of the Ministry, but all are taught in English instead of Thai. Another topic of the discussion is a tuition fee for courses of both programs in each semester, which is vastly different. For the international study program, the fee is much higher than the English program. Unfortunately, students who cannot afford it would not get opportunities to study in the program. The English program costs lower than the international study program, but the fee is still in the medium range. The last important issue in this discussion is the purposes in teaching students between two programs. While the English program focuses on academic knowledge more like most Thai academic institutes, the international study program would focus on English skills, such as communication, speaking and writing, and global societies in the view of western countries. In short, both…
