My Experience With Spanish Immersion
It is amazing to me to see how much I have accomplished since second grade. I feel as if the little girl who walked throughout the halls of Spanish Immersion, the girl who had little faith in herself to succeed, had changed into a mature, hard working young lady. In second grade I was partly depressed. I had felt as if life had no meaning. I struggled in school, and did not appreciate what was being taught. My mom suggested that I may have had dyslexia, but we were not certain that was the reason. It turns out, she was correct. Two weeks into second grade I absolutely hated school. The teachers and administration expected me to just magically learn English after years of being immersed in Spanish. I didn’t fully understand what was being taught

In second grade I had a fair level of Spanish reading, but what was difficult for me was to learn English and it it took me two days to learn the ABC’s in English. I understood nothing of writing English. My teacher started giving me small lessons on it; I loathed English so much I wanted to give up. In fourth grade, I started to write essays that took me forever, and I was so deeply embarrassed, because I would get my papers basically all in red of corrections. As time passed I hated books more and more, every time I would have to read I would get pissed or thought, “oh great… more reading.” I needed to change. I am not very sure how the change occurred but I know it happened; it was about…

When my sisters and I first came to the United States I had trouble understanding American English. Though we had been taught English in our school in the camp we were not prepared to learn in a completely English environment in a completely new culture. The transition was quite a challenge for us, not to mention starting well into the second half of the school year, but we pressed through and managed to get good grades.…

Do Spanish-speaking immigrants have rights to bilingual education? With the increase of the Latino population in New York City during the 1960s caused the school system to be faced with a new issue of language rights. My topic of bilingual education is important because with the increasing presence of Latinos it brings an increasing number of Limited English Proficient Students to the country. Being a first or second generation Latino having a bilingual education makes a difference in one life by causing them to preserve part of their culture. My paper will focus on what exactly is bilingual education, it’s origins, the ways in which it is taught, the successes and failures and what the future holds.…

The first years of schooling were difficult for me, even though looking back now were quite easy. From kindergarten up to eighth grade we were taught the fundamentals of our education. We were taught to read, write, spell and work out simple math equations. Our teachers were more lenient with us back then. They would go easy on us for our mistakes and the grade system back in grade school was easier on us. Grade school teaches…

I remember when the first day of high school started. I was very nervous and stressed, scared to the point that I didn’t want to be at the school. I had six classes that I had to attend that day. At the end of the afternoon, I walked in my last class and it was Social Studies. I usually don’t like this subject but the teacher started to change the way I thought about social studies. Her name was Mrs. Jennifer Smith she impressed me the way she was confident, and she told us about her story from high school to college and the success that she gained over the years of studying also the fears that she had.…

It was in 2003 that I wrote my first letter and was able to write my name properly. It was then that I was taught to read my favourite book “Grimm’s Fairy Tales” without my mom’s help. When I was in the first grade, my most noteworthy day was not the first day I went to school, but the day I was called to read out loud an article and I couldn’t do it fluently and was being laughed at. That experience literally changed my life, since which I realized that I must study hard to catch up with the rest of the class. It’s not only the feeling of being able to read and write that makes me aspire to go back to my childhood, there are also countless other memorable things: Kid’s games such as blind man’s buff, cat &…

My education is one of the most important things in my life. I think that is the base of the life to successful and to be someone important in the future. I was starting my education in Mexico. I’m going to kinder garden in “Heroes del Chapultepec.” I loved going out to lunch and run with my little friends, I was very athletic; this is what I liked about my kinder garden. Sincerely overall there’s nothing that I don’t liked it from kinder garden. After kinder garden I continued at Mexico too in primary was a 6 years there at “Miguel F. Martinez.” For me was one of the best time because is the time of our lives where we learned many things of the life, the best. I didn’t like because there were “reports” and they called your parents to tell them about your citizenship, three reports and we get out the school. Secondary was more difficult for me, but I met good friends there and I think they are not my bests friends but I know that they will be there for me. My secondary was a private school, “Instituto Mexico” and was intesting because is about Catholics. Every morning we prayed, and always when a class was to begin, we must pray. That was a three years of a good experience in my life. I liked when we go to spirituals retreats. The whole day we were prayed. We had a sentence that said: “Todo a Jesus por Maria, Todo a Maria para Jesus” was like the principal sentence of the institute. And the finished with secondary I come here to San Diego to study high school in “Southwest High School” I started in 10th grade and for me was super different, the classes, classrooms, teachers, students, school everything. For me was a new experience in my life everybody in their tree. Coming lunch and everybody knows where will be they friends, that’s was very funny. I loved the assembly’s, when we scrammed to win senior vs. juniors and everybody with everybody but the happiest moment was my graduation, class of 2011.…
