My Experience with Technology
I have never really thought about how much I depend of technology. We got our first family computer when I was about 9 years old. At the time my brother was a computer geek (still is) and he would go buy the computer books that had programs in them where you had to type everything out to get a game on the computer to play. So when I would help or when he was teaching me, we would mix some of the programs up and see if we could come up with anything. Then it was to BBS’. That opened a whole new world! We could meet people online without actually meeting them. Now its becoming more and more complexed..
Now there is so many programs out there it’s hard to keep up. I have taught myself just about everything I do on the computer. I know Microsoft Word, Windows, Adobe reader and those are just the ones I can remember off hand.. I am pretty comfortable learning new programs and look forward to it. At this time the only one I can think of that my hinder me is Excel. Since I have only used it once I am not 100% comfortable with it yet. But I will be by the time this class is over. While I worked as a manager at a pet store we used a program called Campbell, it would keep track of the employees hours, what we sold in the store and everything in between. While I was at Staples I was learning all kinds of programs and applications.
At this time the only thing that comes to mind that I would have a concern about would be not being able to ask a question and getting an answer right away.
I look forward to this class and learning new applications that I can use on the

A graded potential in physiology, is described as local changes in membrane potential that occur in varying grades or degrees of magnitude or strength. When compared to graded potential, an action potential is described as brief, rapid, large (100mV) changes in membrane potential during which the potential actually reverses so that the inside of the excitable cell transiently becomes more positive than the outside. As with a graded potential, an action potential involves only a small portion of the total excitable cell. Action potentials occur in several types of animal cells (excitable cells), which include neurons, muscle cells, and endocrine cells, as well as in some plant cells. In neurons, they play a central role in cell-to-cell communication. In other types of cells, their main function is to activate intracellular processes. Action potentials in neurons are also known as “nerve impulses” or “spikes”. A neuron that emits an action potential is often said to “fire”. Depending on the stimulus, graded potentials can be depolarizing or hyperpolarizing. Action potentials always lead to depolarization of the membrane and reversal of the membrane potential. Graded potentials amplitude is proportional to the strength of the stimulus. Amplitude is generally small (a few mV to tens of mV). The duration of graded potentials may be a few milliseconds to seconds. When compared to graded potentials, action potentials amplitude is all-or-none; strength of the stimulus is coded in the frequency of all-or-none action potentials generated (large amplitude). Nearly all cells from animals and plants function as batteries, in the sense that they maintain a voltage difference between the interior and the exterior of the cell, with the interior being the negative pole of the battery. The voltage of a cell is usually measured in millivolts(mV), or thousandths of a volt. A typical voltage for animal cell is -70mV. Because cells are so small, voltages of this magnitude give rise to…

I have some older friends who know nothing about technology and would not know how to use it. They do not have the internet or a cell phone and say that they do not need it. We sometimes tease them by calling them Fred Flintstone and ask how everything is in Bedrock. I think that now a day’s technology has become a necessity and not just a luxury.…

    2. Which of the three applications you learned about in this course (Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, and Excel) do you feel most confident about using in your next course? Why? I learned about all three applications. These will be good for my Business Math class. I feel confident in using Microsoft Word application. I will be able to use PowerPoint and Excel too, but I will be a little slow getting started. The Word applications can be used in my Compositions classes. I know how to load and exit windows, spell-check a document, open and display two documents, set margins, and there is so much more I learned in this course. The Microsoft Excel was a little difficult at first, but I learned how to copy formulas, enter functions, and clear cell contents change column widths, format material so that it can be easy to read, and insert and use multiple worksheets. These were easy after I continuously used them. These applications made me want to learn more. I am sure I will in future classes.…

I also learned the importance of databases in general. At my current job we always see the results of a query but I had no idea how they were created and organized. Overall this class has taught me the significance of technology in our everyday lives and those of us that were born in the late 80’s think of it as normal everyday life, but those that are much older see how much technology has advanced and it has intrigued me to learn…

In today’s society technology has changed so much that some people can’t keep up with the changes. Over the last century there were wired telephones that started out the size of a college algebra book. The people of that time was grateful to have such communication capabilities and didn’t have a problem with the size of the phone. As the years pasted there would be advancements in this technology that would then move to a cordless telephone. You no longer had to carry that one hundred feet of telephone cable around the home or office any more, you could just carry the handset. But technology advancement would not stop there, in years there were phones that you could carry with you outside of your home or office building. The older generations had to learn how you use these phones, but very quickly cell phones evolved and were used everywhere.…

Advances in technology cause great controversy. These controversies are centered around the influences technology has on the people who engage in different types of technology. In the article titled “Out Semi-Literate Youth? Not So Fast” by Andrea Lunsford, she explains the importance of technology and how, in most cases, technology is able to help develop students. In another article titled “Hal and Me” by Nicholas Carr, he stresses the point that technology is pushing ‘the good life’ to the wayside. Although both authors have different opinions when it comes to technology, they both agree that changes are occurring due to technological influences on peoples’ brains. Technology plays an extremely large role in the lives of the people in this world, it is important that everyone understands that changes that come with the advances of technology.…

There are several similarities and differences between Maya Angelou's "Champion of the World" and Amy Tan's "Fish Cheeks." In both stories, the main character is trying to fit in with a group of which they are inherently not a part of. Angelou tries to fit in with the elder African Americans in that she copies their feelings of hope that Joe always full name or only last name will win the fight, and Tan tries to become a typical white American girl in order to attract a boy that she likes. Angelou, being so young, mirrors the adults’ desire for the triumph of Joe Louis, who is viewed as the representative and hero of the oppression experienced by all black people. Because Conjunction beginning a sentence of all the blacks gathered in the store, Angelou is surrounded by blacks who are proudly rooting for Louis’ triumph, the African-American victory over decades of oppression suffered at the hands of whites. She is filled with this desire to win and is unashamed to take pride in her ethnicity. Unlike Angelou, Tan is ashamed of her race and wants to fit in with Americans.…

I find that being a teenager living in a first world country in the 21st century, it is nearly impossible to not be reliant on technology. Our whole life is ran by computers from our ride to school all the way to what makes our coffee in the morning. I find that even if I don't want to, I will never not be reliant on technology. Each and every morning I wake up and turn off my alarm which means the very first thing I do in the morning is use technology, all the way until the last thing I do at night which would either be turning off my lamp from reading a book or finishing an episode on netflix, technology is the first thing I use from when I close my eyes until I open them.…
