My Family Genogram Assignment

For my genogram assignment I interviewed my aunt Trinida from my mother side and on my father’s side I interviewed his mother. My grandmother from my mother side passed away when I was about six years old and my grandfather died in 2011. My mother is the youngest of 8 and she never met her grandmother from her mother side, although she did meet her grandmother from her father side. I as well met my grandfather’s mother she passed away in 2009. Through a phone interview with my aunt Trinida I learned that my grandmother Carolina Martinez Gutierrez got married at age 19 and she only had on sister. In 1952 my grandmothers mom passed away and months later so did her husband, she was only 11 years old. My grandmother’s grandmother was a single mother and nobody knows the cause of it. Due to the shortage of time to acquire information and relatives not being cooperative I still managed to learn new things about my family. For example health concerns, children naming, and the stories that shape who I am. I want to continue researching my family and try to uncover more facts. It was intriguing learning about me and my family. My parent are the first generation to have come to the USA and because of them I am here today. Our past generation have a lived in Mexico. Due to both my grandparents passing away from my mother side I believe important information was lost. Many of my aunts were not helpful nor did they know much about our past generations. As a result, significant details and facts are lost. I still have my grandparents from my father’s side and I plan to make a trip to Mexico soon to learn and gather facts about my past generation before they pass away. Overall it was a learning activity that makes me want to go find a time machine to go back decades ago and meet my past relatives to experience
