My Father's Abuse-Personal Narrative
He stood up and pointed a gun at her. We quickly pulled out of the parking lot and my mom finally made the decision that she had enough of his abuse. She filed for divorce. After a lengthy restraining order and many nights hiding from him, the court date arrived. My mom and I entered the courthouse to finalize the documents. The elevator opened and I saw his face for the last time. My prayers had been answered! He left us alone from that day forward. We were finally free. Very soon after, my mom met my step father Jerry. He literally felt that my mom hung the moon. He treated me like I was his daughter. He was loving and kind to both of my siblings. He worked hard to earn my moms trust. She finally married him after several years. Things were …show more content…
I had always dreamed of being a teacher. I loved kids and always had my godchildren at my side. Sadly, my parents convinced me that college was not the right choice for me. They just didn't understand why I would waste time on additional schooling when I already had a perfectly good job as an assistant manager in a retail store. Soon after, I was promoted to manager and excelled at this. Although I went out with my friends much too often, I still was a very hard worker. I took pride in how many hours I could actually work in one week! I took my job very serious and may have been a bit bossy at times. Unfortunately, I started to make choices that were similar to those of my moms. At 23, I met my son’s father. After only a few months of dating, I allowed myself to become pregnant. When I realized what I had done, I quickly called an abortion clinic. I truly believed this this was one of my options as I had a problem that I needed to fix. Never did I pray about God’s will for my life. Fortunately, the woman on the other end of the phone explained to me that there would be a waiting period after my initial visit. I told my boyfriend that I would surely change my mind if I went there and was forced to wait 24

When my step father committed suicide, it was the most shocking yet influential experience of my life. The whole situation expanded my understanding of mortality, spirituality, and of just how fragile happiness is. I can still remember the day that it happened; It was unlike any other day. I was in school when brother picked me up after lunch. We met up with my mother, and brother at my grandmother's house. The entire atmosphere was off. No one was acting like themselves. Immediately I knew something was wrong, even if their expressions and body language were not obvious enough. After sitting in the living room for what seemed like an eternity, I went into the next room where I found my mother who was crying, and when I asked what was wrong…

I stayed with my mother, and my father would leave San Diego and go back to live in Arkansas where he was born and raised. After he left, I questioned “ What caused my Dad to go back home? What is so good over there?”…

The father in this poem I would say he’s not abusive. The reason why I say this is because when you drink you can do weird things. If you reach your drinking limit you will start acting crazy and everything will go out of control. It depends on how you act. In my opinion I would say Mr. Waltz in not an abusive dad I would say he’s a great father that will dance with his son. Mr. Waltz might be drinking just to be with himself and let everything just feeling good to him. He be dancing with his son and to show him that he love him when he be drunk. So therefore I’m saying that Mr. Waltz is not an abusive father.…

After a recreational basketball game, I was upset because we lost, and I told my father “I don’t care that we lost!” My father got upset at me for saying this and yelled at me all the way home, which was a ten minute drive, about why I should always try my best and care about what I do.…

Living with an alcoholic father changed the atmosphere in the house; therefore, changed my beliefs with God. Whereas wondering why was I born into this family? With every star, comes a tear. Like rolling thunder, like rolling anger. Being destructive like a tornado. Breathing hard like a hurricane. Being hot like the sun, I become a meteor from the sky. With every wave, comes a fear like a tsunami. With rejection comes an earthquake. Being lonely like a drought, being hurt like being damaged by hail. Relationships are like mudslides, they come and go. My environment is like a volcano, I never know when I will explode. My identity is like a typhoon, along with not having control of the avalanches. Personality traits are just like the four seasons. Having self-image is like the change of the clouds. October 22,2013, I walked into Mercy Ministries, in Fenton, MO. I got accepted to Mercy Ministries, a Christian program, to help young women, whereas lives are transformed and hope is restored.…

In order to overcome the experiences I had with physical abuse in my life, I must practice how I react towards those who have caused pain on me and to control and strengthen myself emotionally. One step I can take to heal from the destruction caused by physical abuse is practicing how I control my anger. For example, when I’m angry, instead of shouting at someone in a negative way, I should write about the pain I was feeling and why I was angry. This will allow me to reflect back on myself and to lessen my urge to yell. If I yell back furiously, that will cause even more unnecessary destruction. By lessening my urge to yell, I’d be able to communicate with that person in a much more respectful manner and receive the healing that I need. Another…

Moreover, it has been found that an anxious ambivalent personality, derivative of an abusive or neglectful childhood, can predict sexual addiction into adulthood. (Gunn et al., 2011).
