English Class in College
Does anyone like all classes in the college? In college, Students have different favorite of classes, and some students don’t have favorite of classes. I can answer that English class is my favorite class, which I am taking. I like this class because it helps learn more about grammars, how to write a well essay, and the teacher is nice.
I have a lot of challenges in my English class. This class is preparing writing for college, so it requires me to know and use grammar correctly. At first, I learned about fragment because this was an important grammar in the sentence. I also did a lot of activities about fragment with a group, which the teacher gave me. Those activities are good to practice to recognize the error in the sentence. Next lesson, I learned run-ons, comma splice, and comma problem. Almost student gets some mistake or trouble with those problems while writing a paragraph because they don’t know where to put the comma or no need the comma in the sentence. My teacher also gave me some examples and problems to practice. It’s very helpful to improve my skill writing. I have a good knowledge of grammar from this lesson. In addition, I also got more knowledge about tenses because I did a lot of exercises in the class. I learned tenses in high school, but I was so confusing between them. After that, I could use it in the sentence correctly. This is also an important grammar and those lessons made it a good experience for me.
Besides getting know more grammar, essay is very important for college because they related each other. For example, a good essay must have a correct grammar. That is why I have to learn grammar well to write an essay. It is difficult to get ideas to finish an essay and earn a high score. When I read the first essay assignment sheet, I had a little bit felt nervous, and then the teacher explained them to me. She also gave me some activities to practice and see how to type a good essay. After that, she gave me

He has a museum of items appertaining to the Jew. A Jew’s harp, of course: four in fact, one dating from the 18th century, its tongue still miraculously intact. Three dried specimens of the Jew’s Ear fungus. He would like to have a living one, has tried on more than one occasion to keep one alive, but they grow only on certain trees and his apartment is small, with no garden. On his windowsill, however, high above Manhattan, careful tending has allowed a large pot of Jew’s Mallow to thrive; its furled yellow flowers return year after year. He does not know why it is better to have a living specimen than a dead one, only that it is so.…

Kimberly Tan, the Author of “Why Do We Care About Grammar?” explains the usage and value of grammar. Tan states in her opinion about grammar that “people need to realize that grammar is there for the sole purpose of clarity and that it has no value outside of what it attempts to convey” (Tan). Tan argues that grammar should not have a set of concrete rules and that grammar is not the important part in the end, it is the content that is being expressed that truly matters. I personally agree with what Tan has said about grammar. Grammar should be used more so for clarification when writing an essay, we should be focusing more on the meaning of the essay than grammar.…

As well as when it’s necessary to write a certain type of essay and when it’s not. I am unsure on what kinds of essays we will be going over during the duration of this semester but by the end of it, I am assuming we will be able to know how to write a narrative, argumentative, research, comparison, persuasive, descriptive and cause and effect essay. I am sure we will know the difference between all of the essays, know when it is the most appropriate time to use them and understand the steps it takes to write the particular type of essay. I expect to learn about the different essays in this class because I believe it will allow me to know which type of writing style I will need to use during situations in the future, like developing a resume for a future…

If I had to pick a favorite class so far, it would most likely be my Chemistry 105 class. It will be my hardest class this semester which makes me nervous, but that doesn't mean that I do not like it. My professor seems very entertaining and I think that will keep that class fresh. I like science classes in general, so as long as I stay motivated, it will stay my favorite class. I also enjoy my English class. My professor seems nice and easy to talk to, which will help me bond with him, naturally leading to a more successful year.…

When I started this class, I believe I had strong writing skills, and now I believe these skills have strengthened, making me a more conscious writer. Before this class, I have not focused on aspects such as sentence length and specific words that I am using. Instead, I simply wrote and worked on proper grammar. My essay writing skills have definitely improved throughout this class simply due to the fact that I spend more time writing my essays. Now that I have mastered more skills, I can utilize them in every essay from here on out. While I know that I still have room to improve, I am pleased by my progress and I feel more confident about my writing. I have always enjoyed writing essays, but this class has helped me more fully understand the complexities of writing an essay. Previously, most essays I have written have been standard for English classes, and…

To start off with, the overall environment of being part of an AP/IB English class all throughout high school has made a positive affect on me. This has not only affected my familiarization with college level essays but I know what is expected from a higher level english course. As I have mentioned in my previous essay, I have written papers that were up to seventeen pages long. When I was in high school I often thought, why do I have to write so much, it would annoy me that every month was a new essay, now the idea of writing a lengthy paper has…

Throughout my Writing experience I have always had trouble with making the sentence make sense, making it sound professional and doing what the assignment tells to do. I think that this class has actually helped me a lot more than in High School. The new paragraph is better because I listened to what my peers advised me to do and what the book says how the paragraphs should look like. I think I can still use some work on punctuations, because that’s my weakness I have always struggled with punctuations and I think it’s time to start doing better on those punctuations. Even If I knew how to do punctuations and everything that involves writing a good essay or paragraph I think that there will be still a lot more to learn for me, but I can take a challenge.…

Why did I take sign up for an Honors class? This isn’t the first nor the last time I have been asked this, but I must say my answer has changed drastically since the previous questioner. I used to believe school was just boring. I believed that it would always be me sitting through a class, waiting for the end. I always made extraordinary grades, but seemed to be bored. The last time I was asked I answered that it was because It would look good for me to get into college. Now I realize it’s because I want a challenge. I was bored in school because it didn’t keep me engaged and never pushed me. I took my first honors class my freshman year and I instantly realized it was where I belonged. I actually had to put in the effort and think about the problems…

After reading “The Writing Process” in chapter 2, I learned the major aspects to writing a well-developed essay. The methods in developing an essay are: finding a focus, developing a thesis statement, drafting, and editing. Firstly, finding a focus plays a crucial part because when there are many ideas in mind people tend to have trouble focusing on one topic. After settling on a topic, the next step would be to create a thesis statement. The thesis is a statement that relates to all the ideas and the essay should be centered on the statement. Likewise, drafting brings in a lot of ideas for a paper. Drafting essays allows plenty of editing time. While editing essays, one might come across grammatical errors. Identifying errors and correcting them will make the essays sharp and to the point.…

Everyone deserves a seat in English 101, but, unfortunately, it cannot be that way. It is upsetting, but I do understand the circumstances. Therefore, since not everyone can be in a class like this, I will say this: I deserve a seat in this class. Not because I think I am better than the other candidates, but because I truly want to better myself, so someday, I can say that I am one of the best. I know…
