My favorite movie is called seven psychopaths and it is written and directed by Martin Mcdonna. The things I love about this film is how the dialog was written mainly because its as if the characters speak whats on they're minds no matter how mean or insensitive what the had to say was. Even though the other parts of the movie werent very realistic it seems like thats how people seem to speak to eacother in real…
I watched Eve's Bayou, it was the only movie I could get my hands on since I am not in the United States. I've watched it before but it was different watching it with a purpose and a structured thought process.…
David Alfaro Siqueiros was a very famous and influential Mexican artist whose work reflected his political ideologies. David was born on December 29, 1896 in Chihuahua, Mexico to parents Cipriano Alfaro and Teresa Siquieros. Siqueiros was the second of three children, and was raised by his grandparents after his mother had died when he was only four years old. His grandfather, Antonio, who had a military background, had a major impact on his childhood. In 1908 David attended Franco-English College and later, San Carlos Academy, to study art and architecture. During his time there, the Mexican Revolution began and Siqueiros became involved in student strikes, which successfully changed the school’s teaching methods. David joined the Mexican Revolution Army at age 18, leading him to join the Communist Party that worked to challenge Victoriano…
Gladiator. I liked these movies the most because all interested me. The one like I liked the most out of all of these was Unbroken, because it was over a true story. Then my next favorite movie would have had to be The Patriot because it showed us about the war in that time period. It I had to choose three of the movies that I have learned from this semester I would say that my three movies is Unbroken, Apollo 13, and Selma. Unbroken talked about what had happened to him when his plane crashed and he was took by the Japanese and sent to a POW camp tell he was rescued he was also an olympian. Apollo 13 was about a trip to the moon but something bad happened. Selma was…
There are many differences and similarities in the book and movie Our America. The book and the movie Our America is a story about two best friends, both teenagers named LeAlan and Lloyd. They went throughout their neighborhood recording everything that happens in their daily life and what happens in their neighborhood on a daily basis. The reason it is called Our America is because they want to show the readers “their America” in the ghetto. I think that the book and the movie version of Our America have more differences than similarities.…
Mrs. Doubtfire is a movie about something that almost every American family faces, divorce. The film stars Sally Field and Robin Williams as parents with conflicting parenting styles and beliefs, who end up divorcing with a bloody battle for the children’s custody. The children are thrown into this mess and the movie showcases how each of them deal with the divorce. Lydia is the rebellious preteen who doesn’t understand why the family dynamic has to change. Chris, the younger brother is the athletic member of the family. Natalie is the small wide eyed child who is still trying to comprehend why daddy doesn’t live at home anymore.…
The movie I chose was Lee Daniels’ The Butler and I chose the characters to talk about. The Butler is a great movie with amazing characters such as Cecil Gaines (Forest Whitaker), Hattie Pearl (Mariah Carey), Gloria Gaines (Oprah Winfrey), Howard (Terrence Howard), Carter Wilson (Cuba Gooding Jr.), and so many more. This movie is a brilliant, but truthful film on a subject that is usually shrouded in wishing thinking. It is based upon the life of Eugene Allen, who worked as a butler in the White House during eight presidential administrations.…
Racism has been around since the beginning of time. Basically if you had a skin tone darker than the shade of white, you were inferior. Times have now changed, but there are remnants of this subject everywhere, even in film. The movie Birth of a Nation is considered one of the greatest films of all time, even with these themes. AMC’s Filmsite even has it listed within the 100 Greatest Films of All Time. Another movie with the some of the same themes is Blazing Saddles. Blazing Saddles does not have the same stature as Birth of a Nation, but it does deserve to be higher in the canon. I do believe that Blazing Saddles does not have the same stature because it is a comedy with crude humor and because it has a black sheriff as the protagonist.…
I hope this letter reaches you well and in time. It’s Robert writing to like I promised when I reached the great lands of the United States of America. Patrick I’ll tell you one thing and that would be how difficult the ride was to the great land. There was a lady that got sick on the boat and in order to keep us all safe from her the captain had to let her off in the middle of the sea! It was very unexpected but I stayed tough with my lucky Irish blood and made it here. I do miss Ireland very much and wish I could be back there but I know if I want to get rich I have to push myself.…
Little Shop of Horror, the movie that made me fall in love with musicals. Before watching this movie I thought of musicals as plays on film, with long drawn out singing segments you struggled not to nap during. In my eyes musicals weren’t even on the same level as regular movies with all of its high tech effects, fast paced plots and trendy soundtracks. The movie Little Shop of Horrors changed my narrow minded way of thinking into dare I say, a movie musical believer.…
People sacrifice everything just to come to America and live a better life, but they still often struggle once they get here. In the article’s “America and I” by Anzia Yezierska and “Facing Poverty with the Rich Girl’s Habit” by Suki Kim, these two authors discuss their Hardships coming to America and how America treats them. Most immigrants have hard time to assimilate into an American culture, which I myself can relate to.…
The American Dream is “the ideals of freedom, equality, and opportunity traditionally held to be available to every American.” (Dictionary). When immigrants started coming to America everyone had different ideas about the “American dream”. Everyone believed it was possible to achieve, and had no doubts about being successful, owning a home, or being happy. These days’ people question whether or not the American dream is still around, and if America even provides access to the dream. America provides access to the American dream because people can own a home, go to college, and have freedom of religion.…
Life is about making choices, but some of them can even change our life. Two years ago I decided to come to America for my higher studies in Western Kentucky University. Although I knew it was really a challenge to me, this significant decision that I’ve made was going to change everything about my life and me. There are many things in life that can change the course of a person’s life. It can either make a positive impact or a negative impact on a person’s life. It’s always best to have the positive impact though. For me I have had a positive experience that has changed my life forever and that is coming to a different land and culture.…
My name is Angela S. Baez, and you can call me Angela. I am from the Dominican Republic. In this essay I would like to tell you a story about my experience in coming to the USA. I was very happy when I found out my daughter and I received full residency status from the USA. We would be moving to New York City Sometimes, I felt nervous, because it was my first time to go to another country, which used a different language than my country. I also had to leave my family for a long time. However, I tried to keep strong and calm. I knew it was a good choice to move to the U.S.…
Imagine this, living in a very small town; with only one store where you can make and receive phone calls, there are no public phones, no residential phone lines, no electricity and no running water. The roads are not paved until you get to the main road where people travel the most. The next town is about thirty minutes away, and there is only one bus that comes to this small town once a week, so people can go shopping and do other things. In this small town there are hardly any vehicles, people either walk, bike, or ride donkeys. There are hardly any jobs and so the only thing you can do is to leave for another place and look for a job to support your family. If someone told you that there was a place where people had many opportunities to find work and make better money, would you go? For many people in Mexico, this is a question that gets asked occasionally. America has always been known as the land of promise and a place where prosperity flourishes. Unfortunately, America is one of the only places where such opportunity exists, making it a very attractive place to live. There are three major reasons why illegal immigrants are leaving Mexico for the United States. First is the lack of job opportunities in Mexico. Second is the lack of adequate standard living conditions. Third is the low level of education that is provided in Mexico.…
