MY FAVORITE TOY
MY FAVORITE TOY

The toy I love the most is my Barbie doll. My father gifted me a Barbie when I was four years old, for my birthday. Oh! What a lovely gift and I had a lovely birthday party too. Since then I stopped sleeping with my parents. I and my doll slept in my room. Until then I was scared to sleep alone. Now I have a friend. The only time I leave her is when I go to school. My Barbie has five dresses – a party wear, a night suit, a summer wear, a woolen winter wear and a business suit. I can also do my Barbie’s hair. There are many colorful clips for my Barbie. Her hair is long. There is a special smoothening comb. When I comb it doesn’t pain for her. All the dresses have matching shoes too. I like her party shoes as it looks like glass and it is similar to that of Cinderella. All my friends like my Barbie. She is very delicate. When I put her on my bed she closes her eyes. When I pick her up she opens it. So we both sleep together and wake up together. I love my doll. I promised her that we will be the best friends forever (BFF).

Cisneros opens her tale with a possessive pronoun: “yours”, which confounds readers and draw their immediate attention. Without delay, they are then brought into the world of Barbie Dolls: “yours is the one with mean eyes and a ponytail” and “mine is the one with bubble hair”. Here, we are overwhelmed with details of the dolls’ costumes - “Red Flair”, “sophisticated A-line coatdress with a Jackie Kennedy pillbox hat”, “white gloves”, etc. - listed out with eagerness. Readers right away gain a hint of story’s subject. However, while the “Barbie-Q” deals with a popular theme of struggle in the materialistic world, dolefully, it is told by a girl, troubled at an age so young.…

Adaptability – Starting with Docker’s, Levi Strauss & Co. was able to adapt their brands, more so than Snapple, in response to changes in consumer values, opinions and the need to for their product to remain contemporary relevant (Keller, 2008a, pg. 143). The Dockers brand was the first casual pant of its kind and over the years changed to include wrinkle free, khakis and stain defender technology to compete with various clothing manufacturers by offering consumers high-fashion and high-tech styles (Keller, 2008b). As the brand evolved, Dockers also updated their slogans to enhance the new brand image, which helped the consumer to grasp the meaning of the brand (Keller, 2008a, pg. 159). For example when Docker’s switch from “Nice Pants” to “Dress to Live”, the new slogan represented Dockers recently expanded product offerings, going past just pants and helped to make consumers aware of the new clothing items (Keller, 2008b, pg. 217).…

In the poem “Barbie Doll,” author Marge Piercy utilizes four well-developed stanzas to depict a scornful view of American society. Applicable to all time periods, “Barbie Doll” narrates the short-lived life of a young girl despised by society for her appearance. Barbie Doll is like a fairytale, full of plasticity, fakeness, and fantasy. However, unlike a fairytale, “Barbie Doll” ends with society applauding the funeral of a princess that was torn apart into pieces and then worshiped. Written with varying tones of sadness and depression, vivid imagery, and compact concrete details, “Barbie Doll” presents a fact that society for centuries has blinded from view.…

In the past, women were always considered the subordinate gender that was expected to powder their nose and stay at home to be a homemaker. Even now, despite the movement to liberate women from stereotypical gender roles, women are still seen as the inferior gender that is discriminated against in society. As suggested by the popular Barbie doll created by Mattel, the idealized image of a woman in our patriarchal society is one who takes care of the home and is flawlessly beautiful with perfect skin, long legs, small waist, and slender figure. The Barbie doll is used as a tool for patriarchy in that it reinforces the notion that women should be domestic workers and maintain a feminine outer appearance. Also, patriarchal values affect girls starting at a young age as they unconsciously begin to believe that Barbie is what a woman should look and be like. With the appeal and popularity of this doll for the past several years, it is difficult to alter the notions of womanhood suggested by this doll. This implies that patriarchy is something we can not permanently overthrow because it is so deeply rooted in our society.…

She is amazing and probably the most important person I have she is my best friend. She has been my best friend for the last 4 years. I have known her since I entered high school and since that day we have become the most inseparable friends in the world. I have much affection toward her, we have lived many things together, through thick and thin, she always been there for me when I needed her. She is a little taller than me and always makes those few inches a big deal. In her eyes I’m supposed to be the tallest because I’m the oldest which is true sometimes but not this time. She is the type of girl that doesn’t wake up super early to fix her hair; she would rather have the extra sleep. She would rather eat a juicy Big Mac instead of a boring salad because she says “salads are for cows”. She would rather spend the day in her sweatpants and a pain white t-shirt because she find them more comfortable then a dress or skinny jeans. She has those hazy eyes that get you in a trance; her eyelashes are long and beautiful. Her personality is one of the things that. I love about her, she can handle trouble and carry heavy burdens and still have a smile on her face. When she smiles it’s because she feels like screaming. She is a strong girl even when other are not. Her hair has the sweet scent of strawberry and is always messy, even when we go out. She is a very attractive girl in my eye, she is tall but I think that's what makes her look cute. She is normally thick and her skin is caramel .Her touch makes people shudder like a cold breeze of winter, it’s smooth and hasty. Her smile is a bit crooked but it’s a genuine smile, not a lot people don’t see her smile because she hates her smile only the people she trusts see her genuine crooked smile. When she smiles her dimple appears which is the cutest thing because she hates it and tries to hide it but I always notice them. If I can describe her in a few words they would be friendly, respectful, hardworking, and an honest…
