My First Date

ENGL 1203

My First Date There are clothes strewn on my bed, chair, and all over the floor of my room. After changing outfits repeatedly for the past hour, I have finally decided on the right one: a short (stops right above the knees), dark brown, crinkled skirt; a white tank top tucked inside the skirt; and a pair of brown, sequined cowgirl boots. My long, brown, wavy hair is down and free, and I am using an all-natural appearance with my makeup. I sure hope I look good because tonight is the night…the one night that I have been waiting for since…my first date! During lunch last Monday, Wes Pierce, one of the sweetest guys in school, asked me to go out with him on a date this Friday night which is tonight. I’ve had a crush on him since freshman year and he and I are now juniors in High School. He is coming to pick me up at six o’ clock, and I have been getting ready ever since I got home from school. Now as I stand in front of the five foot mirror on the back side of my closet door, I gaze into it and am surprised to see an anxious, innocent, and inexperienced sixteen year old girl staring back at me. Suddenly, there is a knock on the bedroom door. “Sweetie, it’s me,” my mom muttered through the door. I call out loud enough for her to hear, “You can come in, Mom.”
“Honey, your date is here…,” she says while opening the door halfway and leaning into the room. Her voice fades and eyes grow wide as she examines the mess of clothes behind me. She glances at me and then forms a look of admiration. I twirl around to give her a better look at my outfit.
“So…what do you think?” I asked curiously.
“You look so beautiful. I am so proud of the young woman you have become, and I hope you continue to make the right choices as you gain more freedom and responsibilities. You will always be my baby girl. Never forget that. I love you,” she replied upliftingly.
I quickly give her a big hug and tell her, “Thanks. I love

Aflac was founded by brothers John, Paul, and Bill Amos in 1955. Aflac Incorporated is an international holding company based in Columbus, Georgia. In 1958 Aflac was recognized for introducing one of the world’s first cancer expense insurance policies. In its initial year 5,810 plans were sold and by the end of the decade Aflac had 376 agents selling insurance in Georgia, Alabama, and Florida. Aflac began adding many new insurance policies, including accident, short-term disability, hospital intensive care, hospital confinement indemnity, lump sum cancer, lump sum critical illness, specified health event, life, dental, and vision. In 1964 Aflac developed the “cluster-selling” technique of making presentations to groups of employees, this conserved time and effort rather than doing face to face with each employee. Aflac is the number one supplemental health provider in the U.S. The company is present in all 50 states and in Guam, Puerto Rico, and the Virgin Islands. Aflac insures more than 50 million people worldwide and has 70,000 licensed agents. (Aflac Annual Report for 2010) They are currently ranked 125 on the Fortune 500 list of America’s largest corporations. In the mid-1970s Aflac entered the Japanese market and they were only the third American insurance company to be licensed to sell in Japan. Aflac was set to do well in the Japanese market, with cancer insurance not available from Japanese insurers and cancer awareness growing in Japan good things were in line for the company. They insure approximately one out of every four households in Japan. They also insure more than 35,400 payroll accounts representing 89% of the companies listed on the Tokyo Stock Exchange, as well as employers and employees at 159,610 small businesses. She whispered, “You’ll never know how much I love you”. As the person living on the child end of the parent-child relationship, it was wonderful to hear, even under the horrific conditions we found ourselves. It gives credence to that saying, “tell the people you love you love them because you’ll never know if you’ll ever get the chance again”.…

Hey. The name’s Cinderella. Where I want to start my story is when my Dad married this phony after Mom died. Now I’ve got two crumby step-sisters, who aren’t exactly on the pretty side, and they make me work in the goddamn kitchen. I mean for chrissake, they make me work in my own goddamn kitchen. So anyway, this guy came over and invited them to some dance. I guess he was some sort of prince or something. Well I didn’t feel like being lousy and depressed all night so I went to the dance to. It was full of jerks. I mean these guys were real snobs. This one guy was practically on top of me for God’s sake. It was that phony the Prince. So I danced with the guy, I’m not sure why, him being such a snob and all. Then it was midnight and I didn’t much feel like sticking around. On my way out my goddamn shoe fell off. I mean that’s the last thing I need right now for chrissake. Anyway the Prince came over and picked it up. I guess he was some kind of perv or something. I didn’t want to talk to him or anything, so I got out of there like a bat out of hell. The next day the perv comes to my goddamn house with my goddam shoe. He tries to put it on those dopes, my sisters. It doesn’t fit. Of course it doesn’t fit for chrissake. I mean look at those feet. They look like some sort of clown feet or something. Any idiot can tell it doesn’t fit. This Prince guy isn’t too bright. Anyway, he comes over to me a puts it on, that’s when he asked to marry me. I turned him down. I didn’t want to be rude or anything, but he was such a goddam phony. They’re all goddam phonies, the Prince, my sisters, my step-mom, all of them. I think I really kind of hate this place.…

My first initial thought of her at first glance was that she is the most beautiful individual on the face of this planet. Once I was given the ability to fully observe her in her ever so captivating glow, I instantly knew what it meant to feel unconditional love. I began to feel a sense of ownership as I wanted to do anything in the world for her and to protect her by any means necessary. It was truly a remarkable and wondrous cognizance in which I experienced that faithful day. She gazed up at me as she wrapped her whole tiny hand around my pointer finger. I tell her I love her gently as I have never meant anything so much in my life. As we hold one another, I start to contemplate different aspects of my life. At this point, I then decided that my child is what really matters to me now and that I need to be the parent that she deserves. Never have I had another person to care for or take care…

Our plan was to drive through Nevada and into Utah. We stayed the night at the Beehive Inn. It was the only hotel close to us and there was only one room available because the Udells cancelled, so we were the Udells for the night. The room turned out to be a honeymoon room and it had only one bed a well , but this was more awkward than the night before. In the morning we started for Colorado Springs. Once we got there instead of buying a room we were able to stay at one of the sorority houses at Roger’s college. His friend Bronwyn let us stay there. There was a party at one of the other houses close by and so she let me borrow her clothes since I had nothing fancy. Her style was how mine once was: It was full of cute shirts, the ones that were super soft and cute. I hadn't dressed nice since “it” happened. The party was fun, but I had left early. The next morning my suitcase was already downstairs, but Bron left me one of her outfits to wear. We were on our way and there was a note with my suitcase she had taken most of my clothes and replaced them with hers. I was a bit mad, but later on I knew I would thank her. We headed towards Kansas…

The past months have been amazing with you written on every page. If there’s anything that I could be thankful for, it’s you coming into my life in the most unpredictable way and time. Looking back to the first few months of classes, it seemed unbelievable to see us end up in this position. Despite that, I want you to know that I admire the simplest gestures you do for me and I appreciate every single one of them. I love it when you sing to me. I love it when you take my hand in yours. I love it when you kiss me goodbye. I love how you tell me I’m beautiful every day. I love the openness. And of course, I love how you make me feel. You’ve been one of the reasons I have a smile on my face. One of the reasons why I love waking up in the morning.…
