By the time I entered Tsinghua University in 2006, my life had been occupied by boring studying for several years. There were many things that I never believed I could do like being a monitor of class, getting into a fancy relationship or dancing on the stage. If those were things I had still imagined, marathon was one thing that I had never imagined. A distance of 42.195 kilometers (about 26.4 miles) was not kidding. In the first month I went to Tsinghua, the student union of my department, the Department of Precise Instrument and Mechanology(DPIM), held an exhibition about the Beijing International Marathon in a large classroom full of freshmen who were curious about the wonderful coming life. Winning the Marathon was a traditional strength of our department. We had been the first in the number of students who finished a whole marathon in a required time for several years. The president of student union wore tights and sports glasses that day. He said that he had already run the marathon in that tight two times before. He passionately showed us lots of photos like the group photo of all our athletes wearing colorful disposable waterproofs which were used to keep warm. They looked so happy and excited. Then the president shared the experience of how he had prepared for the marathon in detail. In his words, marathon was not that hard and inaccessible; actually it was very interesting and it was a great honor.
The president did such a good job in the exhibition that I was deeply motivated by him. I used to be good at running in short distances and had got many medals for it. Actually, I was very proud of it. That pride plus the curiosity of the university life made me entered my name for the Beijing International Marathon without any hesitation.
About more than 20 freshmen including three of my roommates entered for the Beijing International Marathon. Some of them quit for the reason that the physical examination showed that they were not
