College life is a time in a person's life that is usually remembered fondly. There is no question that college is a great challenge, and demands new skills from a young adult, but it is also a lot of fun. These tips shou...…
Reading My Freshman Year: What a Professor Learned By Becoming a Student twelve years after it was published is similar to what Rebekah Nathan experienced when comparing her notes to Michael Moffat. I found myself recognizing some of her observations but with others I was completely lost. At times, I wondered if the changes between her vision and mine were due to the changes in time, or changes in college. The university she studied was a state university that is very large. While University of Maine at Farmington is also a state university, it is extremely small for a public school and that affects the culture of it.…
The “Freshman 15” has become well known for college students in nowadays, and many students are struggling to battle the weight gain all throughout their freshman year. It’s an inevitable situation if you don’t take care or responsible for yourself. Many student that actually weight during college actually didn’t ever want to gain it in the first place, but due to lack of time, they couldn’t stop the weight gain from happening. I’m currently a freshman college student who is worried about the possibility of gaining weight. It’s possible to happen when I have everything in a way and don’t have much time to work out as I would like. I fear this would happen to me like it did to everyone else, but when I went to see my doctor, I was shocked to…
Obstacles and hardships are what shape a person. One of my many obstacles I had to face was getting use to my freshman year in high school. Due to me going to an Early college my freshman experience may have been a little different. Transitioning was one of the most difficult parts of the whole experience due to me not being able to really grasp what I had gotten myself into. My teachers were very firm in conducting their teaching strategies. I can recall a moment in time where I had turned in one of my first papers for my English class I was so excited for her to read it because I had worked all night on it trying to perfect it. A couple days passed and I got the paper back it was so many read marks on it if I didn't know any better I would…
Starting your freshman year of college is a really, really terrifying moment. You go from being in a place where you are totally comfortable to being in a new place full of new people you have yet to get to know. And for every single freshman, it’s especially harder for any number of personal reasons. When I first got to Williams I often wondered if I really belonged here at all—was I smart enough, talented enough, educated enough? As I got closer to my JAs and my entrymates, I began to overcome my insecurity and learned that I could and did belong at Williams. I want to be a JA because I want to give a group of freshman the same support and confidence that my JAs instilled in me. I want to be able to work with a group of my peers and my…
: As a first year college student I think that adjusting to college would be one of the hardest things for me to do. Making the transition into a new environment and new relationships with new people is not the easiest thing to do when you have adapted to certain people almost all your life. I will be expected to adapt to an unfamiliar environment, adjust to different living arrangements, and develop new relationships. Living with roommates may be the first ‘test’ of my freshmen experience. I will have to face the challenge of adjusting to roommates who may have very different boundaries and individual needs than family and friends from home. My roommates and I may or may not develop close friendships, but communication and compromise can build a smoother transition. College brings a unique opportunity to interact and live with people from various backgrounds and cultures. Expanding my worldview by learning about each other’s differences and similarities will likely enhance my college…
Do you think it is an good idea to make incoming freshmen commit to a career at a young age? Incoming freshmen are required to know what career they want to do. This is a good idea because when they come out of high school they won’t be confused on what career they want to pursue. Another way it is a good idea is they will be more focused in school because they are focused on trying to get to their career in order. I believe that committing to a career is a good idea because it could help young adults prepare for the work field. This is why I think incoming freshmen should commit to a career.…
Freshman year is hard. It's a new school, new teachers, and you have to start thinking about the future. But, something that really helps is setting some goals for yourself. The goals I want to achieve during my years at PHS and beyond are to maintain a good gpa all year and not be afraid to ask for help, take a class that I would enjoy and learn from, and make new friends and lots of new memories. First off, I really want to get a good gpa all four years of high school. I really want to go to a four year college after college, and getting good grades in high school helps with that. I am an auditory learner, so me being really focused in class with help me learn more and do better. Also, I have a high linguistic intelligence so that will help…
I am a student at Clovis Community College. I am a disabled student in a wheelchair and I am in my fifties, so it is at times a challenging experience. Even though, it is challenging being away from my family to obtain my college education, but I love it anyway. I transferred to Clovis Community College from Merced College in Merced, California. This will be my second full semester at Clovis. I will be transferring to Fresno State after the Fall 2017 semester.…
The sophomore class at Robert C Byrd is up to activity on their High School careers. Even though it feels like they were just preparing themselves for their first day of high school yesterday. “It is always weird trying to plan your future at your sophomore year, but it helps a lot because it gets practice in when you have to do it alone”, said senior Alisia Moore. Many students joke around this age don’t take everything serious but it is the most important time of your life.…
High school is a different experience for everyone. The first three years really blend together and do not seem important, but senior year is completely different. Freshman year was full of confusion, learning an array of new things. Sophomore year was where life started to get fun and you “belonged” in the high school. Junior year was where you see the little light at the end of the tunnel, but it was filled with anxiety and frustration. Senior year is where it all becomes worth it and the rest of your life is finally going to begin.…
College is the perfect intersection of freedom and young adulthood. Never again will a person be allowed to have that much fun while being responsible for so little. But as generations of students have learned the hard way, it’s easy to get overwhelmed by that freedom and go overboard. Students who’d never had a problem doing homework find themselves failing tests when there’s no one around to motivate them to attend class. People who’d always managed to have a thriving social life discover they’re constantly in solitary. It’s a fun but intimidating time, and the best way to get the most out of freshman year is to remember a few key things meet new people, go to the library, don’t go crazy during the week, go to class, and get involved in a club.…
New semester begins I feel blessed to back to school after a long vacation. This semester I took 14 units and equal to 4 classes such as math, esl, music, and theater art. I wish I could do my best to secure even better grade than my previous semester. Back to school met with many new friends and I feel good after all. I expected the first week as a student we don’t start the class right away since there are students with an unstable schedule try to crash in and add the class. It’s funny by the end of my previous semester I always want to finish school quick and relax on my long vacation but after a while I felt bored and want to get back to school as possible. This week campus has a lot of fun activities and a good vibe for students. The crazy…
When people start high school they’re usually so excited. They can’t wait to experience everything that comes with being in high school, I mean who wouldn’t? Everyone says that high school is the best four years of your life. Now that I’m months away from graduating, I can’t say they were my best years but I can say they were my most educational years, of course I wouldn’t say that they weren’t fun because they were. When I say educational, I mean I’ve learned so much about myself and so much about life. I learned what the words family, love, betrayal, law and life meant. All these events changed me, and I’m glad they happened because I wouldn’t have learned all these lessons. My personality hasn’t changed; I’m still a carefree girl, just with a little more wisdom and a lot more strength.…
