First let me introduce myself my name is Gretel Seymour I am 48 years old and a Mother of 3 Adult children. Every aspect of my life was, taken care of my children along with working two jobs. Coming from a family of College graduates my grandmother raised nine children on her own I must say she was a very strong woman. My grandmother always pushed education and how important it was to finish school and go to college. Although I didn’t graduate high school, determined to obtain my GED and that I did in the year 1996. Soon after obtaining my GED, I received a certificate and became a certified Nursing Assistant. sick and the elderly people was a passion of mines determined to become a nurse someday. Of course for me with children and life changes, school was placed on the back burner taken classes here and there but never pursuing the passion within me. After years of working I managed to obtain a Business certification with hopes of getting a degree in Business but not being able to make up my mind as to what really drove me to enroll in a College.
Sometimes in live you have to step out on faith believing that you can do it. School has never been my favorite thing to do totally hating everything about it. I was introduced to one of my coworkers whose husband attended Columbia Southern University talking to me about how he really enjoyed attending Columbia. I began my research on Columbia University and all that it had to offer they had the best tuition that I had seen in reference to other colleges. Unaware that my place of employment networked with Columbia made it possible for me to get a discount on my tuition. My first thought was Business but realizing that was not my true calling I change my major to Hospitality Management and Tourism. I have always had a great fascination with beautiful hotels and resorts loving the whole outlook of satisfied and happy people. I traveled a great deal inspired by the beauty of certain hotels and resorts not being able to get over making my dream come true. Law enforcement has been good to me, being in a position where I can't go any further, along with the job and the danger involved the pay is definitely not worth it. I have done a lot of research my
plans are to apply for different positions including Las Vegas, Biloxi, Tunica, also considering moving to Puerto Rico. There are endless possibilities in this field I feel that now that my children are adults with children of their own the only thing standing in my way is me. My plans are to get a position in the field of Hospitality Management, having worked in Law Enforcement for eight years I realize that I will have to start from the bottom working my way up to the position I truly desire.
