In 1920, Jinnah resigned from Congress when it agreed to follow a campaign of Satyagraha, or non-violent resistance, advocated by the influential leader, Gandhi. This letter shows his anger towards Gandhi, privately and uninfluenced, we can rely on this source. Jinnah writes “In the public life of the country, your methods have caused divisions, ... even between fathers and sons.” This shows he does not understand the needs of the public, only concerning himself with the needs of India as a whole. He disregards Muslim concerns, mainly focusing on the Hindu population which leads to the separation of India into Pakistan. This links directly to the Viceroy’s claim in source 10, writing that Gandhi is “hopelessly unpractical and unaware in everyday…

According to orthodox historians, Jinnah was central to the partition of India.* He transformed the Muslim League from an elitist, marginally supported party to one of the most influential bodies at the all-India level. He mobilised the Muslims masses and according to Gilmartin, helped them to transcend their provincial divides and focus on a wider cause.* Jinnah accused the Indian National Congress of having a Hindu bias and feared their totalitarianism. He developed the 'Two Nations' theory, which asserted that Hindus and Muslims were two separate nations and should have parity in central and provincial governments. This led to the passing of the Lahore Resolution in March 1940, which orthodox historians highlight as the beginning of his campaign for Pakistan. Jinnah formally asserted that the Muslims were a nation and 'independent states'* should be formed. In June 1940, he published his 'Tentative Proposals,' which repeated his demands for the division of Hindus and Muslims and advocated…

Everyone loses someone or something they love at some point in their life. I rummaged through my grandpa’s rundown garage and became sad. All I could remember was the raspy sound of his laugh when we talked. He smoked, not a pack a day, but he had been doing it for so long that it hurt him. I continued to sort out the antiques and garbage for my dad, so he could decide what and what not to keep. I found a poster in the garage. He had two posters in his garage that he would always look at because it became boring just sitting there. They were both wrecked but the one I kept was in better shape. He would always joke with me about the girls on the poster and said to never have a girlfriend because girls are too much work. Then my cousin…

A chilly breeze struck my face as I lower the window of the car, a 2010 Dodge, rushing passed buildings while leaves begin to fall off the trees. Mom and I were passing the local cemetery on our way to the store and I think of him. Without a warning, tears slowly make their way down the sides of my face and it takes me back to the Winter of 2010 when I knew, knew that he would be taking his very last breath.…

Pakistan dayIndependence Day (Urdu: یوم آزادی; Yaum-e Āzādī), observed annually on August 14, is a national holiday in Pakistan, commemorating the day when Pakistan achieved independence and was declared a sovereign nation, following the end of the British Raj in 1947. Pakistan came into existence as a result of the Pakistan Movement; the Pakistan Movement aimed for creation of an independent Muslim state by division of the north-western region of the South Asia and was led by All-India Muslim League under the leadership of Muhammad Ali Jinnah. The event was brought forth by the Indian Independence Act 1947 in which the British Indian Empire was divided into two new countries—the Dominion of India (later the Republic of India) and the Dominion of Pakistan (later the Islamic Republic of Pakistan) which included the West Pakistan (present Pakistan) and East Pakistan (now Bangladesh).…
