My Hero

Living in a small town, there are not a lot of people that have made an impact on my life. In 2008, my mom told me that I should join paramedic explorers but I found fire explorers and thought it would be more interesting. A couple Mondays later, I got the hang of it and I was really happy. Being in this explorer post helped my grades and I met new people through my academies and musters. Musters are gatherings of Explorer post throughout Southern California. We do bucket brigades and much more activities with hoses and water. Being in Fire Explorers showed me integrity, dedication, and self sacrifice. Firefighters made an impact on my life and showed me what it takes to be a hero. Firefighters taught me integrity a quality that a hero should have. Integrity is honesty and truthfulness in one’s actions. Trust is one of the most important things in public safety. Any firefighters who misbehave do not only hurt their department but also hurt all firefighters because that chips away any public trust. You must also trust your fellow firefighters to have your back, to keep your secrets and with your life. All firefighters must possess this because this is the most important trait in any firefighters. Having integrity helps me become a better person around the fire station and at school. It also helps when we are doing live fire training and I need someone to back me up. Another quality the firefighters taught me that a hero should have is dedication. You must take pride in what you do and do the best at what you do. You also want to be dedicated no matter how exciting, boring, or dangerous something is. Firefighters who aren’t dedicated to their job quickly fall behind and become a hazard to themselves and their crew. They also might stop contributing to any organizations. Having dedication in an explorer post is important. On Monday nights, we are there at the station at 5:30 p.m. and we don’t leave till 9 p.m. We also do fundraisers that everyone
