My High School Year
Angela Poh Onn Kee CEB 140005
My High School Memory I was sitting down, looking back at those old photos; these pictures struck me with old memories of my high school life. I do not think my best memory of my life has approached me yet. However, I feel my high school years have been the most memorable. My high school, a place that had transformed me from an innocent to a mature one. I was placed in an all-girls school. In the beginning, I found the school environment was very strange, because I came from a mixed primary school. So, it was a little bit awkward, when I only saw girls around in the school compound. Months after, slowly I was adapted to the all-girls environment. I got used to the girls school culture. Craziness was one of the most common characters among the girls. This is because, in an all-girls school, it was normal to speak and laugh loudly, and even shout loudly like nobody business without thinking to take care of your good image. During my high school years, I had a bunch of close friends. We were gossiping about celebrities’ news, friends’ gossip and any other gossips all the time. Making noise during classes was also one of the things that we usually did. There was once, we were all called up to meet the senior assistant because we got complained by a few teachers, we were too loud in class. At that moment, we got punishment for our mistakes that we have done. But today, it became the fond memory that I always cherish. Wise man used to say, if you don’t do some crazy stuff in your secondary years, then you will have nothing to be laugh of in the future. Another sweet memory I had about high school was my friends and I used to eat in the class when teacher was teaching lesson. Certain lesson like history was a boring subject for us. To avoid fall asleep during the lesson, we usually got a lot snacks prepared. When the class began, we started to eat. We were so lucky, because all this while, we never got caught by our teacher. Such a memorable moment I had. In my final year, I was elected as the head prefect of the school. It was a very good platform to implant the leadership in me. I had an opportunity to lead my juniors, together we worked together in order to get things done. We had organized a few events for the school, such as Teachers’ Day celebration. Through these experiences, I see myself slowly transformed from an inexperienced sophomore to a somewhat mature senior, things have really changed for me. Some say that “high school was the best time of my life”, just like others say that high school was the worst time in their lives. To be honest, I am not sure which category I fall into. Throughout my high school years, I have plenty of good times, as well as bad times. The only thing I can say is that I learned. And the most important thing is that, not just that I learned through books, but I learned about life and the road ahead of me.

A common theme that runs through both works is the idea of the American Dream, the idea that a man can earn his place through work and can attain the life he wants. These ideals are prominent in both texts and affect the characters in different ways yet it is often the success of men that determines how they are viewed by the world in both books.…

The Dutch brought the first African slaves onto American soil when they arrived at Jamestown, Virginia in August 1619. (American Yawp, Chapter 2). This event planted the seeds of slavery, which brought about cruel, inhumane treatment and abuse of a whole race of people. In the earlier colonial days, African slaves were treated like indentured servants- mainly poor Europeans contracted to work for a certain amount of time. However, this would change after the colonies expanded their tobacco plantations and needed a larger workforce.…

High school itself is a jungle of hormones and rage and at many points within a year things can subsequently boil over. Female discrepancies though far exceed the brutality of any male disagreement. Although I have learned the much needed talent of biting my tongue in any heated incidences, but in turn I have been acquainted with those who don’t have that ability. There always has to be the peace keeper in a large group of friends and many times that role falls upon me due to my ability to stay level headed when others are not able to do so. Though this does come in handy a number of times, it does not mean that I do not get passionate over the things that I care deeply about. Such as friends and family, as well as anything that might get in…

So, as I said it was the middle of my senior year. I was out with my best friends, Elana, her little sister Alyssa, and Nicole. We were all out, enjoying our day out, with the sun in our hair, the nice breeze flowing through our hair, and the loud hip hop music blasting some Taylor Swift track. We got to Elana’s house and decide to swim in her pool and relax on this nice day during the week. It was a very nostalgic day, despite what happens later that night. After the pool, we sit in Elana’s room and talk about life and the boys we are currently talking to. We then decide to watch a movie and order pizza. It was perfect. The atmosphere of being with my closest friends was the best feeling of my life. As we talked and giggled, danced, sang and watched movies together we just lived life just cause we can.…

The time has come. After countless weeks of exams, homework, meetings, and random outbursts of crying, it’s time to venture home for a few days of much needed rest, real food, and time with loved ones. Thanksgiving has become a lot more meaningful now that I am away from college. I remember my first Thanksgiving freshman year. I was living the standard movie cliché of coming home for the holidays. I grew a beard, everyone commented on how much more liberal I’ve gotten, I was asked (and begrudgingly answered) how my classes were going, it was all part of the true college experience.…

It was the fall of 1984; I was a senior in high school, this wasn’t a new school for me. Getting to school that morning proved to be very exciting, entering the doors at Hanau American High, this was going to be my last first day of school there. We were all excited to see each other, although we may have seen each other during the summer, for the most part some of my fellow classmates lived an hour away from me. This time I walked in with my head held high, I was a senior. Excited about starting my senior year, this at the time was supposed to be the best school year of my life. There was so much to look forward too, and really knowing deep down that this school year was going to fly by and we would all be headed in opposite directions.…
