Reading the article “What’s Your Influencing Style?” by Chris Musselwhite and Tammie Plouffe taught me things that I was unmindful of such as the distinctive influential styles that exist, how such are defined and the importance of influence and how using them appropriately could play on our advantage.
I also found interesting the fact that even though the main objective of the five (5) influencing styles is to persuade people into doing something, each style impacts differently depending on how effectively we used them. Work in organizations is carried out in a situation of power and influence and learning its importance is beneficial. Influence is the change

Within the body of this assignment I will discuss and appraise the impact of leadership styles on the organisation in which I work. This will then help in attempting to justify the most effective leadership style to motivate staff in my own area of practice to achieve the organisations values and goals. To aid me in achieving this I will address and discuss the headings outlining each section. I will firstly review the prevailing leadership styles within my organisation and assess the impact that these styles have on my organisations values and performance. I will then review and assess my own performance in applying different leadership styles in a range of situations, communicate the organisations values and goals to staff in my own area and assess my ability to motivate others and build commitment to the organisations values and goals.…

An individual can influence a group of people just by being different. The group obviously has to have people with different talents, characteristics, or experiences. In order to influence each person, a person should consider the other person’s point of view and make the argument in terms he or she understands. Of course, there also has to be a person who likes standing out, who likes being the center of attention. In addition, there can’t be a person who will stand alone without an explanation or knowledge. These individuals might be more difficult to influence; it is probably a good idea to focus on the others.…

Influence, the capacity to have an effect on the character, development, or behavior of someone or something. There is a good chance that most of us have been influenced by someone or something throughout our lifetime. We all offer the ability to influence, and to be influenced. In 2011 when I joined my school's marching band, I did not realize the influence it would have on my life by teaching me teamwork, self-discipline, time management, and dedication.…

WorldCom was one of several large companies that failed because of inadequate organizational leadership, fraud, conspiracy, falsifying documents, and embezzlement. WorldCom has been classified as being “one of the biggest corporate scandals in Unites States history” (Zekany, 2004, p. 101). In 2001, the company’s financial condition began to decline due to the slowing telecommunications industry, which eventually put pressure on the company’s executive officers to increase profits (Jonesington, 2007, p. 1). Unfortunately, the executive officers made decisions to commit accounting fraud by falsifying documents to reflect a positive cash flow rather than a negative one. All the individuals involved pleaded guilty to fraud and conspiracy charges (Jonesington, 2007, p. 1).…

The precepts of the IBM training program are consistent with the concepts in this chapter because there are a lot of consensuses. There are for example power, which is according to Robbins and Judge, “a capacity that A has to influence the behavior of B so that B acts in accordance with A’s wishes” (p.420) and the power tactics, which are, according to Robbins and Judge, “ways in which individuals translate power bases into specific actions” (p.425). There are different power tactics an individual can use by moving people into specific actions. A research has defined nine distinct influence tactics. The most effective ones are rational persuasion, inspirational appeals and consultation. The least effective one is pressure. Furthermore, by using more than just one tactic you can increase your chance of success.…
