I would say that the theme of this book is survival.
The whole plot is just Brian tries to survive in the wilderness. It is very prominent in this book. Another theme is boy vs nature. It is similar to survival. Brian has to go against nature to survive. For example, he had to go against a tornado at the end. The way that he resolves the conflicts is he makes shelter and he just does whatever he can to survive. He ends up finding a transmitter and he gets rescued too. T hat is pretty much how the conflict gets resolved in the
end.
This story is told in the 3rd person but it also is the 1st person because the story is told through Brian's thoughts for most of the book. For example, you get to learn more about Brian's past through his thoughts like how his teacher told him to always stay positive and to always stay motivated. You get to learn about a lot through his perspective. Everything else is in the 3rd person though.
I think that what Brian did throughout the book was smart throughout. I thought that he made good decisions, especially in a situation like the one he was in where he was alone in the Canadian wilderness all by himself. I was pretty happy with the way he resolved his conflicts. He was brave enough to go underwater to get the survival kit while, having to see some messed up stuff like the dead body of the pilot on the plane he was on. If I was in that situation, I would`ve tried to do that too, because I would not want to be in a situation where I was stranded for any longer. I would do anything to get rescued.
The one connection I made was not from a book, but from a movie. I made a lot of connections to the movie Castaway. The whole 1 man stranded theme of the 2 stories and how the 2 main characters of the 2 stories had to survive by finding food, making shelter and how both characters end up getting rescued in the end. The movie castaway was the biggest connection I could make even though I guess I cheated by picking a movie instead of a book.
