My Journey to My Accomplishments My first goal was to obtain my general Equivalency Diploma (GED) with the intentions of later attending college. It took me longer to achieve my goals, since I have had many personal obstacles in my way. At the age of 17, I became a married teenage single mother of a one month old baby. I did not have much of a family so I had to take care of my child on my own. My family was not the type to go to for help because they would take from someone leaving them helpless. Looking in the mirror one day after being knocked down for not cooking dinner, made me look into my soul through my eyes; I decided enduring a life with so much Domestic Violence that it was not for me. That day has come and I am on my way to achieving my first goal, obtaining my GED. Trying to obtain my high school diploma after my domestic violence left me insecure and it was rough but I was determined to achieve it. According to my teacher’s, I missed so many days that I was not able to attend school and finish my education. I was researching online for resources to see where I can sign up for the GED classes and eventually take the GED test. I signed up for the GED classes at a school called Y. H. Thomas Community Center and received all my materials to start studying that same day. Although I signed up, I did not succeed the first time. I came across a teacher that I could not understand, and eventually I just got tired and dropped out. One day at work, I found out that I was up for a promotion.
