4-H is looked at in high regards within society, but I’ll honestly admit that I had no idea what it was when I entered. I begrudgingly went to the meetings at the urging of my mom who looked at the overall picture and wanted to raise two well-rounded women who would be able…
4-H has been an extraordinary experience that has fulfilled my childhood and made me the person I am today. Being a part of 4-H has impacted my life in ways no other club or activity could. As an officer for many years, I learned public speaking skills, I am able to talk to my peers without being shy, as so many kids are, I learned how to stay organized and how to lead a whole group to an end goal.…

As long as I can remember, I have known what I wanted to do with my life. Leadership has always been a passion of mine. My leadership experiences position around a distinct premise. I shall attempt to define that premise from my viewpoint. Under the direction and suggestion of my grade school Saint Margaret Mary, volunteering in our community was inspired. Although there were no opportunities to serve in leadership roles during this undertaking, I had always embraced leadership. As a son of a Marine, I grew up with a solid sense of duty and service, in addition to a first-hand knowledge of leadership qualities.…

The Rotary Youth Leadership Award (RYLA) conference is a substantial experience and I am honored to have been considered to be given the opportunity to attend the conference. Settling upon one individual student is a daunting decision to make especially since everyone selected are perspicuous and clever individuals, but I can assure you that choosing me to attend RYLA is the right choice. Deciding on me is not only beneficial to myself but also to my city, state, county and the people around me.…
In the beginning of 2001 I was a SGT in the 82nd Airborne Division, by January 2002 I was standing in front of the Battalion Commander’s desk being read my second Field Grade Article 15 in seventy days. I was being demoted to Private First Class, being sent to Correctional Custody in Camp Lejeune, South Carolina for thirty days and being moved to a new company when I returned. The first field grade was for disobeying a lawful order from three senior NCO’s, the Brigade CSM, Battalion CSM, and my Platoon Sergeant. They had all told me in the same day at separate times to get a haircut and I failed to, the second was for stealing from the company supply room while on extra duty from the first field grade.…

Although I have served as a leader in everything from the Humane Society to science club, working as a group leader at my school’s cheerleading camp taught me the most! As a summer camp leader, I was entrusted with a group of thirty campers with ages ranging from four to ten as well as a small group of my peers. I was responsible for teaching the mini-campers how to dance, cheer, and tumble, ultimately preparing them for the parent performance. My additional leadership duties included moving the group to stations on time, creating routines, cheers, and games to keep the kids busy, and finally, settling disagreements among the girls. By the end of the experience, I learned teamwork, patience, and how to mix fun with focus, which ultimately…
The reason I want to volunteer with your organization is because i love working with kids. My career goal is to become a teacher, and I would love to gain as much classroom experience as possible. Currently, I volunteer at my local high school a couple times a month in the Aboriginal Studies class. Also, I am volunteering with the South Delta Minor Fast-pitch association. I have just finished working with young girls from the ages 5 until 10.…
An outstanding student leadership team needs to be able to motivate the group to realize its potential. The most effective way to motivate people to accomplish the goals of the leaders is to ensure the followers understand how the leader’s goals will help them. The whole group needs to share a common goal. Leaders need to effectively communicate what that goal is, why it is relevant to everyone in the group, and what each member has to do in order to achieve that goal. It is vital to have goals and keep track of them, breaking them up into short-term goals. As a leader, my goal will be to prompt the band to perform at the highest level possible, making superior music along the way. This will help each member become a better musician and become better at operating as part of a team. Besides the common, long-term goal, each member has their own personal goal of what they want to reach during the season. Another way leaders can motivate followers to help them achieve their goal is by helping the followers achieve their own personal goals. Despite tedious work and long hours,…
When I was younger I would have been described as shy and reserved. I was like an un-blossomed flower. My life has since changed drastically. Many opportunities came across me such as taking a cruise with family and business friends, being nominated to be a Rotary Youth Leadership Award (RYLA) 7170 member of 2015 at SUNY Oneonta, and being chosen to go to a National Youth Leadership Forum (NYLF) for Medicine in Boston 2015 at Babson College.…
