I need to develop my own writing style; I find it easy to collate ideas and thoughts in my mind, but it is the transfer to paper which I need to develop. During the draft contract, I have found writing down on a piece of paper how I would speak my ideas really helped
and then try and adapt it and be more concise. I had decided early on what I was going to do my projects on. The bit I found difficult was distinguishing between my activities and learning outcomes. I really had to think and extract my learning outcomes from the actual activities and not just repeat myself, Using this method I found it easier and the learning outcomes began to flow much more easily. As I was deciding on the last project I felt that I wanted to change its focus. I felt as though my learning outcomes were too similar to one of my other projects and that to get maximum benefit from this course a different subject can bring new learning outcomes that the first two projects did not cover.
I have had some great help from my learning mentor who critiqued my work base learning projects and questioned me on different aspects I had previously not thought upon. A fellow workmate has also signed up onto the course, it was good to question one another about learning outcomes and how our opinions differed on certain aspects of the learning contract.
HMS DRAGON has just come out of a long upgrade and maintenance period. Over the last 3 weeks, the department tempo has risen significantly. This affected my progress on the draft learning contract. I had to ask for an extension to my deadline by 5 days. This highlights the advantages of the course and the dynamic nature of the learning contract. Time management between my working life and completing this course is going to be very important. The next 4 months will be a testing time and will require more thought into my organisational skills.
