My name is Joseph DePrince and I’m your typical college student at NYU. I try to do the best thing possible. But honestly my life changed in a matter of seconds. First I was laughing with family and friends and then next thing you know I’m sitting behind bars for a crime I didn’t commit. The story that you are about read is my story. My story of when my life got rough. But in the end there was light at the end of the…

I’m eighteen years old and my birthday is on February 23, 1994. My name is Thomas Earl Blankenship IV, but I go by Pete. I am from Mobile, Alabama and I live on Dog River. I played soccer, basketball, and ran cross country in high school. Soccer is my favorite sport and the team I was on in high school won the state championship twice, and I got named MVP the past two seasons. I have two little brothers Murray(17) and Jack(14). I also have an older sister Katherine(24). Being the oldest boy in the family is challenging sometimes but its a responsibility that I love to have. I attended a military high school called UMS-Wright, and their code of conduct was very strict. My life love is music and my ultimate dream is to become a music producer in Nashville, Tennessee.…
My name is Shannon Diane Flaherty…now Holland. I was born some twenty odd years ago on November 24, along with my twin brother Mike, in Hyde Park, Massachusetts. He’s 2 ½ minutes older than me, and always makes it a point to tell me. I lived in a two family house with my family, and my neighbors were my aunt, uncle, and cousins, so I always had someone to hang out with Anyways, I have a mom, dad, four older brothers, named Danny, Rian, Darragh, and obviously, Mike. I also have one younger sister, Katie.…
My name is Kellee Layne Benjamin, and I will be twenty-three years old on February 4th, 2010. I was born and raised as a mid-western in Columbus, Ohio. I grew up with a large family of all sisters, half sisters, step sisters and one brother totaling eleven children. I was one of the younger, but considered to be the middle because of the age ranges between all of us. I grew up with seven siblings including myself, and the other four siblings were grown and had kids already. I lived in a small suburb of Columbus called Westerville. Westerville is a place where everyone knows everyone, even though they had four major high schools within this small town. Westerville is a very friendly place, where not a lot of crimes were committed. Westerville was “dry” my whole life growing up, but has recently changed so that they sell alcohol in certain markets around town.…
Maya Angelou once said “there is no greater agony than bearing an untold story inside of you”. To me this statement means “there is no greater suffering than to have to hold back all the thought that going through your mind and the pain that you feeling all by yourself”. This statement is related to my life story. Since as a child I have been through lots of dangerous accident causing me broken bones either it is falling accident, car accident, and motorcycle accident. Through it all I always show a bright smile in my face even when I am in pain I never show it to others. I remember when I had to go through my first surgery I was calm and ready, I didn’t think…

As for a lot of people, many of them have some type of story to tell. Some people aren’t okay with telling their story but others are okay with it. As for Jeannette Walls when writing her book The Glass Castle, she was very open about her story. With her story, many people noticed that the way she was raised and brought up wasn’t a normal way to be raised. She went through a lot and not many people realized the struggles she had. Just like everyone else, she had struggles and she overcame them to make a better life for herself. Between her story and mine, there wasn’t a lot of comparison, but the thing that did match up was the ‘Struggle’ that she went through. In my story, friends of mine were struggling and they wanted an easy way out. But…
My parents had lived in Illinois their whole life and grew up there so when we moved back to Illinois it was basically saying that we were just going home. My name was chosen by my mom because she said that Danielle was one of her favorite girl names. She also said that one of her good friends name is Danielle and my mom told her that she was gonna name me after her. A couple days after I was born is when the first ever school shooting happened at Columbine High School in 1999 in Colorado. I share a birthday with Kassidy Steffen and Colleen Daniels. The first couple years of my life I honestly do not remember. My mom has told me stories about when I was a baby. When I was little I loved to help out and do whatever my mom was doing. From doing the dishes to making cookies I was there to help out. My mom told me that I was a momma's girl. I always cried when my mom left to go to work. I also had a big imagination and always like to…
I never had any interest in listening to my family stories. I found them to be preachy and cheesy. Even then, I still wanted to hear stories about my parents’ past. My mother rarely told me anything about her past and usually diverted the spotlight on her mother and father. But one day, I sat her down and with a video camera, I asked her to tell me any story she liked. I asked her to tell me any story she wanted. With the camera rolling, she told me the story of how she became a doctor. Of how she was destined to work in the farm because her family was poor and there were no medical schools where she lived. Of how she walked the long way to elementary school everyday just to get a glimpse of the local hospital. Of how she worked multiple jobs in her twenties to save up to go to medical school. Of how she eventually was asked to work at Harvard and later here in Toronto. When she finished, I turn off the camera, gave her a hug and saved the video file on my computer. I always longed for a role model growing up, and even though my mother will probably not be there when I finally become a doctor, I will still have that video – I will still be able to tell her story to my…
My name is Sadie Silvers I was born at Hamilton Medical Center in Dalton, Ga. On April 9, 2003 to Michele and Ricky Silvers. My parents earned a living by my dad working at Yellow Freight Lines in Ringgold, Ga and my mom was a stay at home mom. The very first out of many houses I ever lived in was off of Highpoint Drive. One of my most talked about memory in my first year was when my sister dropped me on my head when I was nine months old (she was stunting with me because apparently I was a good flyer).…
Going through a traumatic experience teaches one a lot of about one's self. Recently something happened which initiated a lot of introspection. After the event transpire, i was completely and utterly broken. I for the first time in a long time, I gave up. I started to view the world cynically. This outlook on life continued for weeks until one day. I was lying in bed, looking outside at the starry night i started to think. In this massive universe i was but a simple cluster of atoms. Why had i been so arrogant to think that the entire world is horrible just because I had a bad experience. My story was one in billions. I had become arrogant and entitled. I started to view the world s to if it revolved around me. That was day that i started twice…
