My Life Journey “When we are no longer able to change a situation, we are challenged to change ourselves” (Viktor Frankl 1905-1997). This quote really speaks to where I am in my journey of life. Life if full of changes, and I am a believer that everything happens for a reason. Through this paper I will give a brief explanation of my upbringing and experiences, how my career path thus far, and my future goals through my adult development. Growing up, my mother stayed home with my younger sister and I while my father worked. My mother spent time volunteering in our classrooms, hosting play dates, and enjoyed taking us shopping and to the beach. We were often on the go, but my mother always made the time to help me through my struggles in learning through school. She taught me many techniques on how to study and learn. She always took the time to help me break things down to help me understand new concepts. As a child and even now I have a fear dogs. I found it quite interesting that there was a theory to go with my fear. This fear follows Sigmund Freud’s theory of the unconscious mind (Witt & Mossler, 2010). As a young toddler I was bitten by a dog. I have no memory of this event, but have been told that I loved dogs before that incident. While I am not a big fan of dogs, I remember always loving children. Since I was one of the youngest of my fifteen cousins, I got the opportunity to do a lot of babysitting in my teenage years. Being around young children was something I always enjoyed. My strong interest in working with children brought me to enrolling in an Early Childhood Vocational class during my senior year in high school.
