My Literacy Journey
People develop from situations and events that alter a person's life for it to either improve or to decline. Reading can only make you a more intelligent person on what is happening around you, and around the world. Each individual has their own literacy journey that is unique to themselves. No one can have the same literacy journey as others, literacy journeys are like fingerprints, no matter how close an individual will be with one another, they will have different fingerprints. I believe, that the introduction to reading at an early age in a person's literacy journey, alters and makes a person who they are later in life. Reading makes people stronger readers, thinkers, and writers and without being introduced to reading at an early age in …show more content…
I first found out about this series when it first came out in 2007 and I loved the book. Coincidently I found about this book at the Scholastic Book Fair that came to my elementary school every year and it was one of my favourite times of the year. I loved seeing all the different books, I loved the sports books, fact books, and specifically the Diary of a Wimpy Kid books. I took the book and started reading it for the fifteen minutes my class was at the book fair for and I adored it. When I went home that day, I convinced my mom to drive me back to my school because the book fair was open until two hours after school to buy the book. She agreed and my mom and I drove down and bought the book. I finished the book in two days and I reread the book a countless amount of times. To this day I occasionally read the books because I enjoyed them so much. The main reason why I enjoyed these books so much is that at the time I was around the same age of the main character, Greg Heffley and I believed I could relate to him. When I was a child, I loved video games, so did Greg, Greg had a best friend, he did everything with, I did also. I have learned a major lesson from reading the series. It is to treat people the way you want to be treated because at some times, Greg would disrespect his best friend and I would think that was wrong at an early age. Now, I try my best to show respect to everyone I meet. This series is and will always be a major part of my literacy journey and made me the person I prevailed to be

I would be assigned books that would put me to sleep like Roll of Thunder, Hear My Cry because it would have no action that I enjoyed. That’s when eighth grade happened. I saw this smart kid reading a book with a bland red cover with the title I am Number Four. At first I thought it was too advanced and boring so I didn’t bother reading it. Until that summer I went to the library and saw the book under the “Most Read” section and I gave it a shot. I could see why that kid wouldn’t put that book down during class. It made me feel so many emotions I’ve never felt before over a book and I couldn’t stop reading the series, again I wouldn’t do my homework and my parents would get mad because I would read too much for once! I have recently just finished all the books in the series up to this point and I’m waiting to get my hands on the one that just recently came out. I have read this series several times because I just thought it was so…

I read it whenever I got the chance. Day and night. The story had come alive and dragged me into it. When I read, I experienced a feeling I had never felt. Everytime I read a chapter from the book, it drawed me in more. I traveled into the book and soon it became a part of me. One day it was Chapter 13 and the next it was Chapter 21. There was no stopping me as I read and read and read. I began to talk to my friends about it and they recommended other books for me to read. I finished the first book, then I read the second, “Catching Fire,” and lastly I read “Mockingjay”. This was the best book series I had ever read in all of my eleven years of being on earth. My brain began to beg me for more reading material as time grew on. Reading began to teach me new things that I hadn’t known before. As my thirst for reading grew, I felt like I was becoming smarter as well. How could a book change so much of a person in so little…

I loved hearing her voice when she read to me. She would change her voice for each character in the story. Hearing different voices sent my imagination soaring. Sometimes I would close my eyes and visualize the characters and setting. Although I do not remember many specific details about these reading sessions, I am certain that the pictures and adventures of the make believe characters were the reason the books captivated me.…

Everyday, schools require students to read. Mostly with a goal system or a treat in return for reading. So no matter what, unless you can’t get an education, you’ve most likely read a book before. But an important question brought up between people is “can reading change someone?”. My answer to this question is “well, probably not instantly”. While reading most likely will not change a person, reading select books can influence some of the reader’s actions and beliefs.…

Plus I soon found out all about the different types of books out there from romance all the way to fantasy. I remember our teachers would sometimes let us choose our own books to read, and one of my favorites was goosebumps. There was just something about those books that were very entertaining to read. The goosebumps novels pretty much focus on mysteries plus as you read the book there is a section in there to see how the end will play out and there is like 2 or 3 different ending that you can choose from depending on your mood, or you can just see how all 3 will end. I also got to say before I forget I was also into the harry potter novels. I think the harry potter novels are like 200-300 pages maybe more? But they were so good to read and then the movies for them came out. But the books are always so much better than the movies, most of the time in the movies they leave out all the good details that are in the…

Through my literacy experience I have learned important things, that learners should pay attention to, in order to improve their literacy. First, literacy requires long time and patience because it is not the process that is done in specific period of time. Second, the beginning of the process is so important because it is the foundation, and it has to be strong to continue your…

*It wasn’t until fourth grade I was introduced to mystery books. There was a bookstore at my school and one of my friends convinced me to get a book I thought was really weird, but then I read it and it ended up being one of my favorite books. After the exhilarating experience of going on the adventure of May Bird, I wanted to read more and more mystery books. I found that I also loved action books, Cracker.…

Reading and writing also encourages us to think. We introduce to the concept of reading at a very early age. It remains with us in different forms throughout our life. It is very important to instill the habit of reading right from childhood. You can put in children, the habit of reading bedtime stories. Reading during the early years helps the child in improving his/her language skills. When children learn to recognize written words, it enables them to mock the words and then is able to write. Avid readers and writers are also better at processing information faster than those who read less. The research presented by the Journal of Abnormal Child Psychology proves that poor readers have poorer short-memory functions. [1] As a result, avid readers have a broader outlook, are quicker to analyze facts and find connections between unrelated ideas.…

Reading is an important skill to help people learn from human knowledge and experience. Through reading, knowledge has greatly contributed to the growth of mankind. Reading is the fastest and simplest way to raise people’s educational level (Hung & Tzeng, 2001). Thus, reading also improves the cognitive perspective of a person. No people are more educated unless they read. Reading also enhances not only the brain, but the awareness of a person to different words that he/she didn’t encounter before. It increases one’s vocabulary and comprehension. Through reading also, many people increased their critical thinking skills especially when finding the main ideas or for analytical purposes. In short, reading is the best and only way of enabling humans to absorb new experience and replace old views.…
