My MQP experience started at the beginning of 6th grade. I was unsure what to expect, as I came from public school. I was unsure as to whether I would make friends easily or not. I wondered if the teachers would be nice and if the students were nice. The reason I came to MQP was to improve my education and faith. It was a tough decision whether to go here for a better education or stick with my public school friends. I spent much time thinking of it, but finally decided I would need a better education in order to prepare for high school and beyond. In the end I am glad that I made the right decision.
At the first day of 6th grade I was extremely nervous. I recognized a few faces from when I shadowed earlier and
from when I played for the MQP track team, but I didn’t know what they were like. I was quickly greeted by Mrs. Harris and many other kids, and I instantly felt welcome. I was a little thrown off by how we switched classes and had different quarters; but I quickly got the hang of it. I was able to bond with kids I didn’t really know through Fun Friday, the Spanish Cooking Project, and the End of the Year Science project.
I expected 7th grade to be similar to 6th. It was not. I had different science and English teachers, who both taught very differently. The workload was very different from 6th grade. The assignments got harder and the homework got more consistent. I struggled and got a little taste of what I thought high school would be like. I seemed to be more overwhelmed and even forgot to bring money for Mission Carnival. 7th grade was tough, but I persevered and was able to get through it alive.
8th grade will be my final year at this school. I will miss all of the fun things we do on Catholic Schools Week. I had a different English teacher, Mrs. Venneman. ( Although I could still hear Mr. Westerman yelling from his room.) 8th grade has been a lot of work, plus preparing for high school and confirmation. 8th grade so far has been a blast and I look forward very much to the 8th grade mystery trip. While I look forward to high school, I will miss this school very much. Thank you MQP for all that you have done.
