My Meaningful Expirence
The service that i attended and served at was one of the most memorable moments in my life. I will never forget getting off that bus and seeing all of the kids who needed school supplies for that coming school year. When i was in 8th grade, i went with my church downtown to a school to hand out school supplies to kids who did not have enough money to buy there own. It was a bittersweet occasion because it was unfortunate to see all of those children who were not able to have their own supplies but on the other hand, I was pleased and so blessed to be one of the people to help them out. Before we opened everything up, i got the great opportunity to meet some of the kids waiting in line. There were kids from ages five to 18 there that were all smiles and their eyes were bright with anticipation, just to get school supplies. The kids there were so sweet and it made my heart warm to see them getting everything they needed to get and i was fortunate to be one of the people that the kids looked up to. It was so meaningful to me because it was like seeing the world from a whole new perspective. I go from living in a nice place, getting my own school supplies, living in a nice neighborhood and going to a nice school, to going downtown, to see kids who have never really had the experience to do what i do and they are still some of the most kind hearted people i have ever met. It is amazing to be apart of a situation where you see things from another side and that those people do not need everything in the world to be happy.

Volunteering for service hours changed my outlook on life. I worked with the Hydrocephalus Association in both eleventh and twelfth grade. The Hydrocephalus Association focuses on three things community, clarity, and cure. Hydrocephalus is a condition defined by an abnormal, excessive accumulation of cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) within the cavities of the brain. Some people with this condition can live a normal life being unnoticeable while other have difficulties. The association works on awareness to find a cure, clarity in helping families further understand the condition, and a community which will always be supportive. Service hours can sometimes be a hassle but once I started volunteering with that association it became fun because I was…

Once a month, our organization, Ketchikan CPOA helps the local Salvation Army Soup Kitchen prepare meals, serve and clean up, I have dedicated three years of monthly service to helping plan, prep, and cook and serve the citizens of Ketchikan, AK who need it. This service has had a profound effect on my life. The most memorable time I can recall was my first time attending the soup kitchen. I enjoyed meeting the staff at the Salvation Army Soup Kitchen, working with my fellow Coast Guard men and women to prep the meal, and to meet the patrons who attended breakfast that day.…

The results of my hard work and the positive impact it creates on the people around me is a reward in itself. One of the most memorable instances in which I contributed to the greater good was during the summer of my freshman year where I volunteered at West Pines Community Church. That summer, myself and about 50 other volunteers set out to make an impactful difference in the…

I volunteered at Texas Humane Heroes, a local animal welfare organization that gives a homeless dog or cat a chance of finding home. It is a nonprofit organization that benefits from the involvement of volunteers. This was a very unique experience because I got to work with a lot of different volunteers and staff members. There were different volunteering opportunities from foster volunteering to helping out around the place. I helped around the place with other volunteers. We cleaned the dog and cat cages and washed their bowls. It wasn’t fun to pick up their waste, but we got to play with the puppies and the kittens. We also had to greet customers and inform them about the cats and the dogs that they had up there. In the afternoon, we had to walk the dogs. So many volunteers and I, took the dogs out.…

My freshman year I participated in the freshman service retreat and went to Whole Kids Outreach in Ellington Missouri. There I learned a lot about myself such as my passion for working with children. Little did I know a few months after this trip I would have a job that is all about working with children. I also learned that people need help right here, and that you can make a difference without traveling across the world. However, the most memorable service experience for me was Junior Service.…

The service that I did with the poor was at St. Vincent De Paul. I took the bus with a friend after school on a random Thursday with Ms. Reuter driving the bus, which I didn’t expect her to know how to do at all. It was my first time working there, because I had only worked at the distribution center the year before for confirmation. When we arrived we all signed in and they put the people who had been there before in their normal locations. My friend and I got split up, with me in charge of sorting all of the donated canned foods and my friend went over to move pallets around. While I was working with one of the staff there, I made friends with some freshmen that were also working with me. They started calling me silly names like “broth boy” because at some point I got in charge of sorting canned broths.…

When I was in the eighth grade I went on a weeklong mission trip with my youth group to Houston, Texas. This trip was a turning point in my life spiritually and mentally, completely changing my thought process of inner city missions at the time. There is a ministry there called CSM that invites youth groups to come and they will take the group to certain places in the city where they can serve and get a feel for the need there and many places. This trip was very impacting for me and I am still looking back on it and realizing the benefits.…

Having the opportunity to make new, diverse friends around the community impacted me as a person. The people I met not only included the people I served, but also included the people I worked alongside of me in the food pantry. Since I volunteered at the same day and time every week, I was able to become familiar with many new people. In fact, many of these people were even able to connect to my life. One day I had a conversation with a man I volunteered with numerous times whose name was Steve.…

I had a amazing chance to help out at local help centers in Mansfield. I was surprise how actually beneficial it was to our people n our community. I honestly thought it was just hand out to people who is sort of struggling. I know there is some few greedy people who would take everything that they can get and still have money in their pocket and I also know there is few individual who really need it. I must admitted I really didn't want to go to those four laces. The first one that I went to I force my self to go after I got done doing that. I couldn't wait to go to another one. My less favorite ones was the domestic shelter and the harmony house. My favorite one was The church and The salvation Army. I was shocked how going to those sites tied u so much into what we learn in class.…

I have been an assistant teacher, Vacation Bible School leader, and Acolyte leader. These positions have included teaching a small group of children from the age of three to ten about Jesus and being an altar helper or Acolyte. I have learned compassion working with these children that you cannot get anywhere else. Also at my church, I have gone on four mission trips. On these trips, I have done everything from making beds at a homeless shelter to setting up a firework tent during a thunderstorm. Through mission trips I have been given a servant’s heart and a love for serving.…

Another service activity that is very meaningful to me has been participating in mission trips where I can directly help people around America. I have traveled to Bennettsville, South Carolina for the past three years on mission trips and absolutely love it. In Bennettsville I have worked on many different work sites. The most meaningful experience for me was when we helped the Williams family rebuild their kitchen. The Williams family has eight family members, 6 adults and 2 young children, living in a small house which caught on fire and completely destroyed the kitchen in their home. Because they did not have any money to repair the home, they lived with no kitchen or appliances for six months before we arrived. They had to cook in a toaster oven or on a small charcoal grill and…
