that filled the many ponds and lakes. It was a very surreal experience for me as I saw this intense nature, even though I had seen similar things in California. Florida just felt different to me for some reason I still cannot explain nor comprehend. My grandparents and I journeyed the multiple attractions in Florida before we zeroed in on Disney World. Driving to the park, we past something akin to a storm drain and everything went by in a blur.
My grandmother asked me if I had seen a crocodile which had been lounging near the drain. I told her that I could not and I continued to look outside, peering into the blurred scenery. We went through the Animal Kingdom and I had to have everything pointed out to me. All the other attractions we went to had everything within reaching distance. At the Animal Kingdom, everything was far away. While at that park, I found out that I may as well have been blind with how bad my vision truly was. I never felt that my sight was that bad until my grandparents had to physically point out and guide me to see things that were clear to them. It horrified me that my vision had degraded so much and I had never realized it. We carried on with our little vacation and visited the other three parks. Though, the last few days of our visit to Disney World were stormy. It rained down on us and lightning put fear into me as we rode the monorail back to our hotel
rooms. I still enjoyed our trip but it just wasn’t the same after realizing I could not see as well as I used to. The prospect of wearing glasses everyday as a statement that I could no longer see without them frightened me. The trip had ended and we boarded out plane after yet another security search, the water was no longer clear and the trees were green blobs. We flew through that twilight night on our way back home. I peered into that dark abyss that was night before succumbing to the embrace of sleep. Later I was dragged to an ophthalmologist to pick up a pair of prescription glasses. Those glasses made me see things in fine detail, some things I never noticed beforehand. Though, I started to notice a bit more than I wished. I noticed the cops going up and down the streets with sirens blazing or the sheer destruction of a very bad wreck. I started middle school later that year, no longer a kid of elementary but an upcoming teen of middle. As I took my first steps through the doors, I looked up and saw a grey sky with no clouds and a bright sun.
