My Michigan Hero: My Michigan Hero
My Michigan Hero
While she pulled into the driveway, everyone watched to see what was in the car. As the back door of the car opened, a pony walked out. My grandpa wanted a wild stallion, but instead of that, she got him a wild pony. Wanda King, my great grandma, was one of the five children her parents, Helma Quimby and Orville Quimby, had. She was married on December 30,1948 to her husband Don King. Wanda King was constantly hard working and inspired me by being so patient and finding the best in everything.
One of the things my great grandma loved was kids. During her lifetime, she was a foster parent to over 100 children. She had kids of her own but always found room to care for more. One time she had about 18 kids, including her own kids

My mother got really sick for about a week and could barely even stand up. Since she was not able to, I played the mother's role and it was challenging. One challenge I needed to face was looking after my little sister. I fed her, changed her clothes, helped her with her homework, made her feel better when she was upset, and put her to bed. I was also supposed to help my brother with his homework and make his breakfast, but he was not as challenging because he is older and more mature. In addition to all that, did my chores and took care of my mother. I was very busy and overwhelmed taking care of my siblings, mother, and myself. That week of playing an adult’s role made me realize how grateful I am to have a mother who takes care of me in the same way I took care of…

I am thankful for my grandparents because they took me in when no one else could. They jumped in the moment I needed and were there for me then and still are now. They put up a wall upstairs and I officially moved in I have been living with them for four and half to five years now. My grandma and I also bake and make food together. My grandmother was the one who made me interested in cooking and baking. Every night she would make herself a salad or something she liked, she would make something else for my grandfather, and them for me. She did this almost every night of every week and never ate until we had our food. They’re loving because they always put me first and make sure that I am doing good in school and that I am happy. If we ever go on a trip they will go somewhere for me even if they don’t want to because they want to make my experience the best that they possibly can. My grandparents are simply two of the most wonderful people I have ever met.…

My parents were quite the doting type, as they had struggled with infertility issues for the better portion of their early years of marriage (as told by my mother). Therefore, my mother insisted being a “stay at home” Mom until after we each entered elementary school, since apparently no one else was good enough to raise her precious babies! Around the age of nine, I was enrolled in the Girl Scouts of America, and because of the many field trips and summer camping outings, I enjoyed the benefit of exposure to various experiences…
