Review on As You Like It
“All the world's a stage, And all the men and women merely players.” touched my heart when I sat under a tree in dog wood park to see the play which leaves me no doubt that this is “As you like it” written by the greatest writer in the English language and the world’s pre-eminent dramatist and play write William Shakespeare. They play started at 7.00pm in the evening and it was directed by Steven W Gwilt. They story was about a girl named Rosalind who was the nephew of a king named Duke Fredrick and a boy named Orlando who was a prince. Rosalind and Orlando fell in love with each other when they meet at a wrestling competition. Their love goes deeper when Rosalind went to forest with her cousin Cilia and a fool guy named Touchstone in search for her banished father in a disguise of a man and named herself as Ganymede and coincidently meets Orlando while Orlando was expressing his love for Rosalind with the nature of the forest and Heather. With the disguise Rosalind appeared in front of Orlando and said that his love for Rosalind isn’t enough. To prove his love Orlando had to woo Ganymede. Along with this story there were other love stories also. The fool Touchstone fell in love with Phebe who came along with them and there is the story of the couple Jacques and Audrey. Orlando’s elder brother Oliver also fell in love with Cilia. The story ends with a happy wedding in the end.
The acting of the main character Rosalind and Orlando was very good. Their costumes and acting was true to the play. The theatrical condition was small but it was good. The voice of the actors was loud and clear. They gave a very good gesture but at the beginning When Orlando and Oliver heard the name of Rosalind and Cilia and their relation with Duke Fredrick they used high five which was funny but it might not true with the play. And when Rosalind and Cilia decided to

Both the passage of time and where we see ourselves in the world, our place in it and our interaction with it have a profound influence on the characters and events in ‘As You Like It’. The relationship between lady Rosalind and Orlando is an example of how time can shape an outcome and present a sense of belonging. Rosalind learns to love and accept Orlando through the progression of the play.…

The actors did a great job at portraying their character the only problem that I had was that at sometimes it was just a little harder to understand what they were saying up on the stage from the back of the audience. The costumes that the main character had as well as all of the rest of the characters also helped portray their characters personality as well as the time setting and…

I have read excerpts from two texts. An informational text titled ‘The Sea Around Us’ by Rachel Carson, and a literature text titled ‘Twenty Thousand Leagues Under the Sea’, by Jules Verne. In both excerpts there are many descriptions of the ocean. Many people debate whether details are described more vividly in informational text, or in literature. I feel the ocean was described more vividly in the excerpt from the literature text ‘Twenty Thousand Leagues Under the Sea’.…

William Shakespeare’s As You Like It is a play that follows exiled characters into the forest, where relationships are mended and formed under the healing role of nature. Dramatic irony is used to convey belonging when Ganymede tells Orlando in Act 3 Scene 1: “I would cure you if you would but call me Rosalind and come everyday to my cot to woo me.” The dramatic irony creates humour as everybody but Orlando knows that Ganymede is, in fact, Rosalind. In Rosalind’s lines, she tries to outline how Orlando mistakes his love for her with true belonging. Although Orlando does not know he is in contact with her, the audience is able to view how Orlando, in actuality, does find a true sense of belonging in her through his adamance in wooing Rosalind, despite Ganymede’s discouraging attempts. The dramatic irony allows the characters to establish a sense of belonging, as Rosalind is able to comprehend Orlando’s genuine feelings for her and grow an attachment toward him.…

The cast did very well, as they stayed in character throughout the whole show. However, I found it hard to understand what the actors were saying quite often. I think some of the cast could have worked on enunciation, diction, and volume a little bit more. Nevertheless, their acting was right on and they made their characters believable. The actors put their best effort to keep the audience engaged. I found Liz Meneses, the actor character that played Helsa Wenzel the most believable and passionate. She made her characters’ personality obvious to the audience and she was very enjoyable to watch. Another actress that stood out to me was Siham Ayoub, the actress that portrayed the role of Bernice. Her volume and diction was outstanding. She made it very clear her character was a free-minded drunk. Also, Matthew Aquino perfectly incorporated the comedy in the play and made it much more interesting to watch. He fit his character perfectly, and I was very impressed by his performance.…

Viktor Frankl’s book, “Mans Search for Meaning,” has an abundance of despair, loss, and chances to become bitter, however, Frankl turns those potential feelings around and makes them into an experience, one he can learn from. It is similar to the saying “learn from your mistakes.” Frankl experiences the worst of the worst, and he learns something magnificent. This is not a story about the horrible things that happened to him in the Nazi camp, but one about his search for meaning.…

Growing up in a small town wasn't always easy for me. I felt that I was constantly hiding and denying the person that I was and the life that I lived. I was forced to be someone that I really wasn't due to the fact that I had a "family secret" that I was withholding in order to protect the well-known, family name, Hutcherson. In highschool, no one but family members and close friends knew that I lived with an alcoholic father. As a child I was always taught to keep our family life secret and never let people know the struggles that our family faced. People always thought that I had the best of everything because of the material possessions I accumulated from my dad. They assumed that because our family had money, we were problem free - and oh, how wrong they were! It was until my senior year at Halls High School that I kept leading people on to believe a lie. I finally got tired of feeling as though I was two different people with two different lives.…

‘As You Like It’ is a pastoral comedy as Shakespeare removes the corrupt life of the court and moves his characters to the Forest of Arden, the pastoral haven. At the opening of the play the audience learn of Oliver’s tyranny over Orlando and Duke Fredrick’s autocratic rule. Here a repressive world is being portrayed. Contrary to this, we see an attractive life style led by Duke Fredrick in the forest as “many young gentlemen flock to him every day, and fleet the time carelessly as they did in the golden world”(I.1.110-12). Similarly, falling in love without the usual restrictions that society imposes becomes…

The theme of As you like it:As You Like It is a pastoral comedy by William Shakespeare believed to have been written in 1599 or early 1600 and first published in the First Folio, 1623. The play's first performance is uncertain, though a performance at Wilton House in 1603 has been suggested as a possibility. As You Like It follows its heroine Rosalind as she flees persecution in her uncle's court, accompanied by her cousin Celia and Touchstone the court jester, to find safety and eventually, love, in the Forest of Arden. Historically, critical response has varied, with some critics finding the work of lesser quality than other Shakespearean works and some finding the play a work of great merit. The play features one of Shakespeare's most famous and oft-quoted speeches, "All the world's a stage", and is the origin of the phrase "too much of a good thing". The play remains a favourite among audiences and has been adapted for radio, film, and musical theatreThe play is set in a duchy in France, but most of the action takes place in a location called the Forest of Arden, which may be intended for the Ardennes in France, but sometimes is identified with Arden, Warwickshire, near Shakespeare's home town.Frederick has usurped the Duchy and exiled his older brother, Duke Senior. The Duke's daughter, Rosalind, has been permitted to remain at court because she is the closest friend and cousin of Frederick's only child, Celia. Orlando, a young gentleman of the kingdom who at first sight has fallen in love with Rosalind, is forced to flee his home after being persecuted by his older brother, Oliver. Frederick becomes angry and banishes Rosalind from court. Celia and Rosalind decide to flee together accompanied by the jester, Touchstone, with Rosalind disguised as a young man and Celia disguised as a poor lady.Rosalind, now disguised as Ganymede ("Jove's own page"), and Celia, now disguised as Aliena (Latin for "stranger"), arrive in the Arcadian Forest of Arden, where the…
