My name, Daneisha Chanel Rayford, is what describes me as a person, and I could never picture myself with another one. I would like to consider my first name Daneisha to be unique. It is one of those names that most people fail to spell right. However, I can honestly say there are not many Daneisha’s in this world. In my opinion, how I was given the name Daneisha is the most unique thing about me. The Creation of my name all started at a baby shower that my mom’s co-workers decided to surprise her with. They told her that if she had a girl she must start her name with the letter D in representation of her name Donice. Like the sweet, …show more content…

I would love to say I was named after one of the world’s most famous fashion designers CoCo Chanel; however I was given the name by a cousin whose middle name was Chanel. Even though my name Chanel does not have an interesting story behind it, but it does have an interesting meaning. The name Chanel has a French origin and in French the meaning of the name Chanel is: Canal; channel. However in America, people describe a Chanel as a cheerful and friendly person. I feel like the American meaning fits me more than the French meaning. My last name Rayford is the most important name to me. It groups me with the most important people in my life, and let me know I am apart pf something special. The name Rayford has a French origin and in French it means counselor. I think counselor is an odd meaning for the name Rayford; however I think it suits my family well. My family has always been the ones to try to fix other people problems. weather was never over 85° and milk was more expensive then gas. My whole name is Helen Lonsdale Torrey but I always just liked Lonnie. My name is from a tradition in our family that has been in practice since the 1820s. The first daughter of the first daughter is named after the grandmothers middle name and that daughters middle name was the maiden name of the grandmother. Every generation the name Helen is exchanged for Hetty of the first born daughter. There is a silver cup with all of the names and dates of birth of those first born daughters; I am on that cup to be remembered forever.…

I chose St. Rose Philippine Duchesne to be my confirmation name. I chose her because she inspires me to follow God, even when it’s tough, and also not to give up. Throughout her life she was dedicated and perseverant. When she was young, her mother and her mother’s sister lived together, so she was always around lots of kids. When she got into her teenage years, her dad put her in a convent to study and be more polite. At first, she did not want to go, but she eventually gave in. After the first month, she loved it, and would spend all her free time praying. Then, her dad started to get worried, because he wanted her to marry eventually. He took her back home. After a year of introducing Rose to suitors, she was miserable. One day, a missionary came to town to talk about his travels. She went to see him,…

Amy Tan uses thoughtful laughter in her novel, The Joy Luck Club, to make a point through laughter or humor. Thoughtful laughter is effective because it grabs the attention of the reader and expresses a point, whether the reader knows it or not. One scene that provokes thoughtful laughter is in the chapter “Best Quality” while the family picks crabs to eat. When there was only two crabs left, Jing-Mei Woo tries to choose the crab with the missing leg, so her mom would have the better crab. On page 227 during the meal, Jing-Mei Woo says “That's the way Chinese mothers show they love their children, not through hugs and kisses but the stern offering of steamed dumplings, duck gizzards, and crab.” The Chinese mothers in The Joy Luck Club show affection to their daughters differently through non-obvious manners, such as showing off their daughters or giving…

Hi, Mrs. Kneisley! You already know who I am because I was in your class last year. My full name is Ameera Aisha Law. Both my first and middle name is an islamic name. My parents wanted me to have a religious and a meaningful name so they gave me my first name, Ameera, and my middle name, Aisha. Ameera means princess while Aisha means life, vivaciousness, and prosperous. I absolutely love my name because it’s awesome(in my opinion.) It is also very unique since Ameera and Aisha are very uncommon in the US. My last name that I got from my dad isn’t a muslim name, but I still love it. Plus, Law sounds too cool to give up. My friends like to joke with my last name saying, “Ameera is the LAW, her words are absolute.” It cracks me up all the time…

A name is an important part of a person’s character. Some people are happy with their names and others wish to change them. I happen to love my name for many reasons. I was named after a very famous Armenian poet and writer, although growing up in La Crescenta that wasn’t well known. My elementary school teacher’s had particularly hard time pronouncing my name correctly. It was then that my nickname was born. After that day I would be called Sio by my peers, family and instructors.…

The name I was originally given at birth holds a real special place in my heart, because it originated from my family history; and I love my whole family. My first and second names both originated from my mom’s side of the family. Daniel my first name, originated from my grandfather’s and uncle’s names. My grandfather was named Dan, and he named his son that is my uncle after himself Dan. My mother loved both my grandfather and uncle so much; she decided to name me after them. Though my first name is not Dan, the name Daniel did originate from the name Dan. My second Jordan also came from mother’s side of the family. Jordan was my mom’s maiden name. When I was born my mom really wanted me to have a part of her original name in my name. So she decided to use her maiden name Jordan for my second name. My last name Holmes is the only name that originated from my father’s side of my family. Holmes is my dad’s last name, and when he married my mom her last name changed from Jordan to Holmes. Thus, when I was born I was automatically given the last name Holmes.…
