I always thought my parents were a strong couple, that their love would prosper against all. But I guess my dad found out my mother wasn’t the same either because my parents decided to get a divorce. I’m not sure exactly when but I slowly started to develop depression, I couldn’t take it anymore. I quit my job, school was a far off thought, I just gave up. I regret how much I let it take over my life because now it’s hurting me more than I would have ever thought, my future. I now know no matter what, I have to keep pushing my limits instead of letting them push me. I am determined to make necessary steps to improve every aspect of my…
I come from a very dysfunctional family; I am the older of the two children that were produced by my parents. I have a younger sister named Nicole Marie Stover. We are the result of my father’s third marriage, the only offspring he is aware of. He has been married seven times to date, the latest one has been the longest lasting, their twentieth anniversary was a few days ago. He made it quite clear when he came in one morning with Carol, my now step-mother of twenty years, that he was going to make this one work no matter what it took. Well this included striking me out of the picture as I was a troubled young lad. But let’s go back to the beginning of my life, the beginning of this story. I was born Sunday November 09 of the year 1980 to George Adam Stover, III and Dawn Marie Stover (Adams) in the wonderful town of Baltimore that’s located in the state of Maryland at Saint Josephs Hospital. My father was a feature photographer for WMAR Channel 2, where I spent a good portion of my time at playing on the editing room floor and…

My name is Kellee Layne Benjamin, and I will be twenty-three years old on February 4th, 2010. I was born and raised as a mid-western in Columbus, Ohio. I grew up with a large family of all sisters, half sisters, step sisters and one brother totaling eleven children. I was one of the younger, but considered to be the middle because of the age ranges between all of us. I grew up with seven siblings including myself, and the other four siblings were grown and had kids already. I lived in a small suburb of Columbus called Westerville. Westerville is a place where everyone knows everyone, even though they had four major high schools within this small town. Westerville is a very friendly place, where not a lot of crimes were committed. Westerville was “dry” my whole life growing up, but has recently changed so that they sell alcohol in certain markets around town.…

Then, at the age of two years old, my parents divorced. My father got custody of me and continued living in Grambling while my mother moved around the west coast. From age two until about age twelve, I have been traveling back and forth from Grambling to Dallas. It was hard for me to understand why both of my parents aren’t waking me up every morning together, like all my friends at school. As a child I…

The struggle to find one's identity is a universal theme that is especially prevalent in Chaim Potok's novel, My Name Is Asher Lev. As an Orthodox Jew, Asher's gift for art is looked upon very unfavorably. Despite the disapproval of his community and father and the pain his art causes those around him, he pursues his passion and must find a way to reconcile the conflict between his religious identity and his individual identity.…
First off, I was born in Gallup, New Mexico in the McKinley County Indian Hospital, in 1976, to a half Zuni/Spanish native, and a Hispanic Apache mother, and growing up I saw and suffered a lot of abuse, and a very unstable youth. My father and mother divorced when I was a baby, and my stepfather was very abusive, to me and my mother for many years, until he was arrested for killing my mother's best friend. After that, I saw the effect that abuse had on my mother, and she became a victim of drug and alcohol addiction, so eventually my little brother, sisters, and I was taking into Child Protective Custody. We were separated at first, and I had a few good foster parents, and a couple really evil ones, but eventually I was placed with a family who allowed us all to be…
In the introduction of the essay, the narrator is informative of how it was like to live in that specific time period. Margaret differentiated between a white girl and a black girl growing up in the south. Maya Angelou claimed, “While white girls learned to waltz and sit gracefully with a tea cup balanced on their knees, we were lagging behind, learning the mid-Victorian values with very little money to indulge them” ( Angelou 11-14). White girls’ goals in this time period were to grow up and get married to a guy that has money. Black girls’ goals were to grow up with the education needed to be able to support their family.…

Let’s start in the beginning, (very biblical I know but bare with me on this; it’s my first time). As I predicted, I was conceived as an accident, my father being a big time criminal and heroin addict (along with many other hard drugs I’m sure). My mother was going through a very tough stage in life where she felt unsettled by her parents for some reason, became a punk of some kind, would away from home incessantly, take all sorts of revolting narcotics and most possibly have a lot of sex with various guys. I’m not sure how my mum and dad actually met, that is a riddle to be solved, but I do know that they had a little flat in London and were living together with two dogs, one of which a violent Staffy. Once mum had found out that she was pregnant with me my father lost it. Every now and then he’d beat her and hurl abuse at her. I’m not sure what he was like sober; my mother says that he was never to be seen so. He was always wired on something.…
My Name is april june and I am 21 years old. I was born right at the crack of dawn on September 3rd 1992 in MA. Currently, I still live in Worcester just up the block from Worcester State University. I attend Quinsigamond Community College and at the moment I am in General Studies taking general classes to help get my GPA up until I figure out what I would like to do for the rest of my life. I live in a pretty averaged size apartment with just my mother Angel. I am the “baby” of two older sisters named Danielle and Amanda. One of them just recently getting engaged and ready to start her life, and the other one has three children the youngest being one years old. My mother and father separated when I was about two years old so I was raised by my mother, father and step mother while growing up. Both of my parents completed high school and never went to college so they were not the type of parents who pushed college careers nor did they have any sort of fund for us to be able to go. Of course after high school when I decided to attend college, they are very proud and supportive for me to finish. When I began college, my mom also went back to college after seeing me and my sister do it, and she got a health and human service degree at the age of 40. My parents came from middle class families and on my mothers side, very few of my family members were college graduates. We often had no spending money or even good running vehicles but they always gave us love and we were happy with all of the small things we had. My parents used the permissive parenting style, at least for me and my sister; they never really used any type of punishments. They would tell us we were grounded from something but the next day we would be doing the things we were grounded from. We were always nurtured and my parents were easy t...…
