Throughout history, countries have expanded their empires to create the largest and most powerful on the globe. Napoleon and Alexander the Great had two of the most controlling empires ever created, and Great Britain's in the early 1800's was another of the best. During this time, many empires started expanding to make greater and more commanding kingdoms. Great Britain greatly grew in the 19th century. India, Asia and parts of Africa joined with them to help expand their territory. Britain used an imperialistic government, which was made to take over other areas of the world to gain power to add to their own empire. There were many different causes to British imperialism, some being political, social or economic. In addition, some of the British conquests were beneficial, yet some were not and left harmful impressions on the dominated areas.…

    Boy Willie's Analysis

    • 305 Words

Death is a force that should not be feared. For example Boy Willie says the following, “I got the power of death too. I can command him. I can call him up. The white man don’t like to see that. He don’t like for you to stand up and look him square in the eye and say, “I got it too.” Then he got to deal with you square up” (Wilson 88). Boy Willie describes death as a sort of weapon. A weapon that can be used against or by someone. When someone is able to look death in the eyes without fear then they are able to transcend to another level of life: a level of life where someone can live without fear. In a like manner, Boy Willie explains, “Everybody say the Ghosts of the Yellow Dog pushed him [Sutter]” (Wilson 5). In Sutter’s battle with the dead…

The name of the city where I spent my childhood is called Senec and it is the second largest town of historic Gemer region, lies 175 m above sea level somewhere in the heart of Europe. It is situated in the west part of Slovakia and it lies on the river Cierna Voda. The first written document concerning Senec dates back to 1332. The history of Senec is connected with an aristocratic family of the Drugeths from Italy. The Drugeths came to change Senec into the center of one of the largest feudal dominions in Slovakia. They ruled for 5 decades until new family from current Hungary took over the power the whole region. The Andrassys started to influence the history of Senec in the 19th century and that period was characterized by economic growth. With the first train in Senec in 1871 started also the development of trade and woodcutting. The construction of a plant for the production of textile and shoes, Chemlon, started the growth of Senec in the 20th century. Senec was gradually becoming also a center of chemical engineering industry. At present Senec is a district town with over 85 thousand people. Its life is rich in cultural and sport events. The most significant town monument is the renaissance Manor house, where the museum is now and gothic church. Near the Manor house there is an old park with an open-air museum of folk architecture. At the edge of the town there are small detached family houses. It is possible to see them from the style they were built that they are old, but also kept in a very good condition. As you travel towards the town center the houses are getting bigger, with beautiful wooden roofs, attics and terraces. The biggest houses are around the square in the center of the town, all decorated in renaissance and baroque style. But the most beautiful part of Senec is the gothic castle and it´s church. Senec is not only a historical city. It is also an important road, rail, air and river transport junction. Senec also houses the…

In my community the area is predominately white; there is not much diversity in the state of New Hampshire. I have viewed the growth of my town from when I was a child to when I have recently moved back a year ago. Fifteen years ago there was one African American family that I knew of and one Hispanic family. In high school there were some other races but I was not friends with them nor knew much about their heritage or culture. I believe that education is the best way to combat racism and prejudice and my small town is an example of that.…

Mandalay is Located in the central dry zone of Myanmar and on the east bank of the Irrawaddy River. Its also surrounded by Sagaing Hill, Shan Yoma Hill, Kyut Sae Hill and Mandalay Hill. My native town is the second-largest city and the last royal capital of Myanmar. King Mindon founded Mandalay and the royal palace, Mya Nan San Kyaw as a new capital at the foot of Mandalay Hill in 1857. When it was founded in 1857, the royal city was officially named Yadanabon which means "The City of Gems". King Mindon also founded the Kuthodaw Pagoda, the Thudhamma Zayats and the library for the Buddhist scriptures. I'm always proud the glory of Mya Nan San Kyaw Palace and Mandalay Kyone. That's a trademark of my native town. Mandalay is famous with the places such as Maha Muni Pagoda, Kyauktawgyi Pagoda, Kuthodaw Pagoda, Shwenandaw Monastery and Atumashi Monastery. Mandalay is Myanmar's cultural and religious centre of Buddhism, having numerous monasteries and more than 700 pagodas. That show my native town is very devout in Buddhist religious. Most of the famous authors and artists in Myanmar were emerged from Mandalay and they served our traditional culture not to disappear and created new cultural tradition to our generations.
