According to Eastside Regional Communications Center (2008), 911 dispatchers answer phones for both emergency and non-emergency calls for not only law enforcement but medical and fire services as well. These individuals work with computer-aided dispatching services as well as computerized phone and radio systems. Dispatch Magazine On-Line also states that these individuals must prioritize these calls when numerous phone calls come into the center at the same time. Dispatchers must complete clerical work, retrieve information from callers using various computer and phone systems, monitor radio frequencies, and relay relevant information between officers and callers. This is only a partial list of duties for a public safety dispatcher. Dispatchers may be required to assume other tasks as needed because of short staff, budget cuts, and situations that have never before been dealt with. Individuals seeking a career as a public safety dispatcher need the ability to remain calm and confident, be knowledgeable, maintain patience, calm down the caller, and maintain high morals.…
To be ethical means to do the right thing and to be the best person one knows how without being judgmental of others, especially if their intentions are honorable. One should get in the habit of displaying good values and morals at all times. When thinking of a personal ethics statement, the Ten Commandments come to mind. The Ten Commandments state that thou shall have no other gods, no graven images or likenesses, not take the Lord’s name in vain, remember the Sabbath day, honor thy father and thy mother, thou shall not kill, thou shall not commit adultery, thou shall not steal, thou shall not bear false witness, and thou shall not covet. These things were taught and practiced even in the bible days and have been passed on from generation to generation. Although these commandments are…

* I choose to model my personal ethics in my workplace because I have learned to be respectful. You should always be cautious about your tone and your attitude towards your coworkers. Also, it is important to show integrity. You can show integrity by being punctual. Always be early for work because if you are always late, it can show that you do not care about your job. Also, you should not take any shortcuts. I know it is easier to find some loop holes because you get the job done faster, but you should also care about getting the job done correctly.…

For as long as I can remember I have always wanted to be a registered nurse. I come from a family where wearing scrubs has always been the normal work attire. My mother has been a registered nurse at a highly accredited oncology hospital for over twenty-five years, and my father a pharmacist for about twenty. I have aunts who are nurses and uncles who are doctors. For me, the health care profession always just seemed to be my future. When I first began my actual nursing journey I was worried that I had possibly chosen the profession simply because it was so common in my family, and that I never even really considered any other career. Luckily for me, my first day of clinical in “Introduction to Nursing” sealed the deal. It wasn’t the environment, the schedule, or even the salary that lead me to feel confident that I had chosen the right career path for myself. Instead, it was the overwhelming sense of joy and fulfillment that I felt when I saw how my care and compassion could help another individual during a time of need.…
An ethical person is defined as one who fulfills their duties and does the right thing as an autonomous, fully-responsible adult. I have the fullest expression of fairness and judgment. Without self-knowledge, I tend to run into the risk of becoming autocratic. I require everyone to do things my way in order to measure up ethically. I tend to not consider other interpretations of the facts or listen to other approaches once I have made up my mind.…
When I sit and think about what the concept of ethics means to me, it seems as if there are many ideas that come to mind. Although they all revert back to one simple meaning and that is to believe in what you say and say what you believe. Treat everyone equally, do not judge one person from the next and do your job as you have been taught. I think that we should use ethics in our everyday lives not just in the work force area.…
