* Daisy has always been happy to state that her childhood was full of fond memories she had a supporting and loving family and she often enjoyed playing with friends. But of course at time these memories were overshadowed with gray clouds of police brutality and a struggle for her family to make ends meet. * Daisy was forced to work for a young age in order to support her family. She worked the occasional job at the farm but eventually went on to work in the field of cleaning. She worked as a house servant. Her step-mother often treated her brutally, hitting her over the head if she did not believe that she was doing a good job.
* Daisy was taken from her mother and was informed that she was being sent away to be educated. It turned out that she was not sent away to be educated rather to be a slave. The woman she worked for tried to give Daisy the impression that they were family but Daisy knew that she would still simply be a slave to them.
* Whilst Daisy was young she realised what society thought of her, they simply treated her as if she was another item that belonged to the society like a dog or cow.
* Daisy was forced into numerous relationships with white men because society gave her the impression that being wanted by a white man was privilege. IT is believed at on stage her father raped her and she had Gladys as a result but this has never been 100% confirmed.
* It is known Daisy had mothered 2 children and both had been taken away from her and only Gladys was lucky enough to be reunited with her mother again
* Daisy throughout the book seems to be under the impression that her grandchildren don't want her because she is black. She constantly attempts to change her identity from Aboriginal to white ie when she talks to the rent man.
* Daisy is a true example of how society ruined the lives of many
