My Plan for Success
Many of the ancient religions made their gods look like animals, such as some Hindu deities and gods from Greek mythology. In Egypt, temples were made to honour animals, and in many countries, until today, animals are sacrificed for religious purposes. Some think this is absurd, others think it is primitive, but very few really understand what is behind the animal worship. Why Did the Egyptians Worship Animals? Unlike some studies suggest , the Egyptians did not believe that the animals had special powers, but rather, that they symbolically represented the many attributes of God. Each animal embodied characteristics that could be evoked in order to accomplish a certain task. Egyptians included animals in their rituals when they wanted to symbolize a set of attributes, characteristics and strenght that a certain animal possessed. The Relationship Between Astrology and Animals Astrology and animals are related in the sense that each astrological sign represents the attributes of an animal. As reincarnationists, Egyptians believed that all humans are born many times in different bodies and in different places in order to acquire all the attributes of God and, by the end of the evolutive journey, possess all the twelve attributes given by each astrological sign. According to Egyptians, not only humans go through these many cycles of rebirth, also humanity goes through the same cycles. Each era represents one astrological sign, and, therefore, an animal. Whenever humanity changed the cycles, approximately each 2000 years, Egyptians worshiped a different animal, symbolizing the attributes that corresponded to it. New temples were built with images of the animal and offerings were made in order to invoke those characteristics. Many Egyptian gods are depicted as animals representing the personification of those attributes, like Horus, who is depicted as a falcon. Chineses had a similar understanding about the astrological signs and the characteristics of

Ancient Egyptians were curious people who tried to answer questions about the universe, human nature, and life after death. Mythology helped the Ancient Egyptians understand the natural phenomena that take place on Earth. Ancient Egyptians had a whole different culture and they believed that there was an afterlife, “Osiris is killed by Set and his wife finds his dead body and is determined to give him a proper burial on Egyptian soil. This is where the myth about the afterlife and mummification came from.” (Hobbs). This revealed truths about nature, the universe and life after death for the Ancient Egyptian people. In those times, mythology answered all their questions about natural occurrences because time, clocks and science did not exist. Egyptians explained that a god did what plate tectonics is responsible for, “It was said that Geb’s laughter was the source of earthquakes” (McDevitt).
