Each poem left me with a life lesson. For example, the poem, “Burning the Old Year,” was about how vital is is to move on in life and leave the past behind. One other poem, “Solitude,” noted the importance of looking out for others. I love inspirational writing, and this is exactly what I found in these poems. Aside from this, I made one other intriguing observation about my choices in regards to the topic of change. Interestingly, I did not have this epiphany until I chose my very last poem, which had the word “change” in it, “A Positive Change.” This poem was about how change can be harnessed into an improved life. After reading this poem, I realized that all of my chosen poems have been about change. While the first poem was about the impact of little change, another poem was about the dismal transition of loss of happy memories, and the last poem was about how change can be a good thing. Through this subconscious decision, I soon began to recognize that one of my greatest weaknesses is not being able to adapt to change. I dislike change and cannot seem to accept it whenever it occurs. Therefore, without noticing it, my opinions on change essentially caused me to take interest in what stance each poem had on it.
