Money seems to be the root of the problems that surround us in our daily lives. Depending on how much we earn from employment that number is concentrated on our social class in society. However, regardless of our social class we all pay a form of federal tax. Federal tax is a tax levied by the United States Internal Revenue Service on yearly earnings of employees, corporations, trusts, and other legal entities. These taxes that are collected contribute to approximately 47 percent of the federal government’s revenue. This money subsidizes national defense and funds federal programs such as welfare and infrastructure. A percentage of our income is taxed according to the amount we earn; it varies from ten percent when making zero to 20,000 dollars to 30 percent when making 50,000 dollars and above. The controversy of eradicating federal income tax involves all American residents…
I believe that the ideology that I was given in the quiz results met what I had expected. According to the Background on Principles & Values on ontheissues.org, the definition of a liberal is that they are “typically focusing on helping needy…
Radical Republican ideology was focused on the question of reconstruction. They believed that reconstruction was more important than the economy or any other concerns of the time. The two most prominent Radical Republican leaders, Thaddeus Stevens and Charles Sumner, did not even agree on economic plans. (Foner 106) Instead, they wanted to use the expansion of power gained during the war, as a means to promote free labor, equality under the law, and black suffrage. Many wanted to see the plantation economy of the south transform into the family farms and small towns of New England, Upstate New York, and Ohio. (Foner 107) For some, this plan included giving freed slaves plots of lands. Radical…
Both the American people and members of the Federal Government have long griped about the current U.S. Personal Income Tax System. Bush’s Advisory Panel for Federal Tax Reform stated that, “the complexity of our tax code breeds a perception of unfairness and creates…
In the book “Contradictions in Conservatism” Dr.Farmer explains the discrepancies and inconsistencies in conservatism in order to enlighten his audience about the contrariety in the ideology, Conservatism. Dr. Farmer brings forth to light the values and beliefs that they hold. He lists all of them and then he explains why they are wrong or contradicting. He does a great job in portraying their flawed logic. Along with all the ideologies he gives us basic information about Political Socialization and how our political attitudes towards other groups differ among everyone. It differs because different people in different locations contain different Socialization agents. Although, the majority of people In the United States tend to gain their attitudes…
Through the United Daughters of the Confederacy and other organizations, they built monuments, made speeches, held commemorations, cared for wounded veterans and widows, and oversaw the writing of school textbooks. Their influence on public perceptions of the period was profound. They helped create the Old South of Gone with the Wind, with its mint juleps, fine houses, beautiful belles, kind masters, and happy slaves. They contributed to the vilification of Reconstruction as an era of corruption, debauchery, and violence. They also unflinchingly portrayed the violent overthrow of democratic reforms as honorable acts that were necessary to ‘redeem’ the…
Is it fair that almost fifty percent of the American population does not pay Federal Income Tax, which funds the federal government and its constitutional basic functions? Since the creation of welfare programs in the year 1935, a percentage of the population in the United States has been depending on these economic benefit programs to live; while at the same time, many of those people do not pay a single penny for those services. The problem with government dependency is that it goes against American core values of self-reliance and work. To solve this very expensive and dangerous problem, Congress should take into consideration reforming the different welfare programs and its guidelines. Welfare programs should be reformed because they create…

I would like to start by saying that I consider it to be a tragedy that this assignment is necessary. I can not believe that so many people in our class do not know the liberal and conservative views on some of the most basic topics. I by no means think that everyone should believe all of the things that I do, but at the very least they do need to know what both parties have to offer. They have obviously been voting solely on party lines and chose their side based on what their parents, people in their community, etc told them. They have in no way made any kind of informed decisions over the last 20 years of voting. I do however commend you for trying to get people to care more about these very basic but important topics, even if you didn't give the best representation of the liberal side.…
I’m not surprised with my results, mostly because I read into what being liberal meant on the first page in the lesson. I agree with taking individual responsibility as well as promoting charities. In my opinion, this political stance encompasses a wide range of ideas.…

The terms liberal and conservative are used more than others in academia, political conversations, and by the media. However, it is doubtful that many people have a clear understanding of what each label represents and the differences they signify. It is difficult to pickup an editorial page of any newspaper without reading about the in-fighting of conservatives and liberals in either the house of representatives or the senate or other political groups due to the fact that these terms are often used improperly. It is crucial that the interested student and concerned individuals are able to define them and recognize when they are properly and improperly used.Whatever the differences in the “left” and the “right” accepting change and involving…
