I needed to make sure that no one else would have to feel what I had felt -- like I didn’t belong or that I wasn’t good enough. I decided to start an ASB at La Cumbre to encourage students to go for something that might be out of their comfort zone. Over the summer, I shared my ideas with the principal at La Cumbre about how we could make the school even better ; she was on board with it all.…

analyzed in this paper will be Freedom High School in Oakley, California. Freedom is a comprehensive high school of slightly over 2600 students, grades nine through twelve. Freedom has a diverse student body including a significant population of EL, SPED, and Title 1 students. The district was put into program improvement eight years ago and since that time scores on the state and district assessments have undergone a substantial and continual climb, particularly in science. The budget crisis caused the district to issue lay-off notices and freeze raises and COLA increases. Prior to the 2007, the district was the third highest paying district in Northern California. The LEA (Liberty Educational Association) is well represented and very vocal group in this district and fought hard for teacher’s rights, benefits, and working conditions. In 2009, Freedom was named a California Distinguished school and in 2010 received a six year WASC evaluation. Despite budget constraints the community has approved several Bond issues for physical improvements to the school facilities including a four million dollar athletic facility and substantial improvements to the library, both of which Freedom shares with the community. Freedom is the center of the community and is rarely with out people using the facilities.…

Before I started at UNCA I expected my education to be intimidating, hard, challenging and stressful. I expected myself to be a tiny little fish traveling in a sea of others. To an extent, that is true, but it is not as bad as I was expecting it to be. I didn’t know much about Asheville before I came. I knew that Asheville was a beautiful, populated, tourist city.…

For the past three years I attended American Heritage School and it was a wonderful experience that led to infinite learings and immense happiness. Although my time at this institution has come to an end, I wanted to thank all of those who made this part of my life unforgettable. First of all, my teachers deserve immense recognition for all the time and effort they put to ensure that I was comfortable in my learning environment and that my knowledge grew everyday. Moreover, the deans that taught me the meaning of discipline by making me follow school rules. Last but not least, Mr. Laurie and Dr. Laurie who gave it their all to ensure that all the students felt safe and complacent with all American Heritage has to offer. Unfortunately, today…

As a class, we have endured changes throughout the years from being split up in the classroom ( Port Allen on one side and Erwinville on the other) as if we were on the bus with Rosa Parks to being untied, from having a teacher and coming back from Christmas break wondering who was going teach us geometry, a change in administration, down to dances from the dougie to “jiggin” and now to dabbin. Through it all I am glad to say we made it; we survived ebola, Oscar Proud, the Predator, Maleficent. Ms. Morgan’s test, Ms. Roger’ solid advice, and the King of Shade worksheets Mr. Seal’s himself. Also for some of you relationship after relationship. All of these good…

Good evening everyone; teachers, faculty, family, friends, and the Walkerville graduating class of 2008! Wow. This day arrived so quickly – this final high school farewell seemed so distant, but it snuck up on us before we knew it. School is tricky like that; one hour and fifteen minutes can feel as long as “”, while the end of the school year can come around as fast as “Brandon Holland running the 200 meter dash. The other three years went by quickly, but none accelerated as much as this final school year. And what an amazing time it has been, Walkerville – from grade nine to now, the experiences have been unforgettable, and small wonder, considering how incredible this school is and the amazing students that make up this graduating class. There is no other school like Walkerville. it is the best high school in Windsor Essex county. Walkerville is in its own class altogether - When I look at this graduating class, I see a group of outstanding young adults. I see so much respect, acceptance, and just all around an extremely classy group of guys and gals. The talent here, especially in this senior year is phenomenal. This senior student body is made up of simply amazing actors, athletes, artists, dancers, writers, photographers, singers, really smart people, and musicians. But at Walkerville, the talent never stops at one category. To just name a few, athletes take art and dance classes, dancers play bassoon, artists sing, musicians participate in extreme stunts such as the four man piggyback, swimmers play piano, businessmen play broomball, historians write toxic love poems, and if you’re a male dancer, then you’re a hero in general. Moreover, this graduating class is a stellar example of how extraordinary ability can be combined with good character and school spirit. This senior year has constantly shown love for their school, simply by getting involved in any way possible. Helping out at events such as frosh day…

School is a very important place for students to develop their skills for their life after school. I also believe that in order to achieve that, you need to be capable to sustain a learning environment. To maximize student effectiveness, I think it is necessary for the students themselves to choose how their learning environment is created. There are three main things I would like to add on to the school to improve it. First, I would like to create a larger library, for a greater span of learning capability through the literature found in the library. Second, I would like to have a indoor field, with artificial grass, so we can achieve more athletic activity in the wintertime. Thirdly, I would want a wider hallway, to make it easier to navigate through the hallways when loitering becomes a difficulty to do so. I think that by adding these three things to start could possibly improve our learning capabilities not only mentally, but physically as well.…
