In the 1990s, I went to Regent elementary school in the Bronx, N.Y and was a B student. I wasn’t an honor roll student, though I believe I could’ve been if I had put in the effort to do so. Like many elementary school students, I just wanted to go outside, and play Nintendo after finishing my homework. I was also one for leaving my weekend assignments to the last minute. I once did my weekend assignments during a school trip that Monday because I forgot to do it due to my excitement for the forthcoming trip to the Liberty Science Center.

And because of our noise making, the bus driver- Mr. Francis started threatening to go back to the school. A girl named Roslyn told Mr. Francis that “you can go anywhere; look at all the cars”. When we realized that he was bluffing and we keep on being with our noise making. As a result to Mr. Francis failed attempt get order on the bus, our teacher Mrs. Gainer told us ( the children ), “if anyone of you made another sound I will be checking homework and whoever didn’t do it will stay on the bus”. Then It got quiet enough to hear heartbeats. Soon after, the traffic started to let up and we were our way to the Liberty Science Center. We weren’t free and clear yet. There was plenty of time left for the teacher to make good on her word and I for one, did not want to be left on the bus while the other children would be in the one of my favorite places. Not long after, a boy name Ronald started singing loud for some strange reason. That teacher thought he was calling her bluff much like Roslyn called the bus driver’s. Consequently Mrs. Gainer discovered that he did not do his homework and ultimately had to stay on the bus. As a result, the teacher decided to check if everybody else did not do there homework.
