My Six Week At Port Elliot Primary School
In my six weeks at Port Elliot Primary School I feel that I have excelled past my own expectations and gained vital experience and knowledge. In my Personal Learning Plan I addressed the need to further my experience with Shasta my student with severe birth defects, improve my ability to tweak lessons as they are unfolding and improve my recording strategies. In the weeks following my Personal Learning Plan I spent most mornings with Shasta getting to know and understand his morning routine I also endeavoured to delegate class groups so I could spend some 1:1 time with him. I worked closely with his SSOs to understand his difficulties and the goals that had been devised for him and his nurse in order to understand his condition and physical …show more content…
These instances provided me with the ideal time to work on my ability to adapt as I was teaching. My students acted very differently when their normal teacher wasn’t in the room; therefore I had to change my lessons before I had even begun them. For these days I used a lot of investigative learning and “hands on” learning to address the students lowered attention levels. These lessons proved to be some of my most successful lessons which surprised me as I was initially unsure. In these last weeks I felt that my ability to adapt improved greatly and the level of control I was given early on in my placement helped me feel at ease with letting go of control. I worked closely with my mentor teacher in the weeks following the interim report on my recording and reporting strategies. I chose to, like her, have a notebook open on the desk to jot down any information I thought relevant to my students future learning when I had a spare moment. This process worked well for me as I had concreate notes to go over before planning the lesson to ensure all students were understanding the topic before

    4.1- The way in which my own working practice can affect children and young person development is by working closely with a child to watch them play, listen observe what they are doing write down what you see. Through careful observation you will begin to know your key child, think about what they like doing and what they don’t like doing. Speak to parents and gain information and advice. Once you have taken photos and observations on a child we will then look at the curriculum EYFS and look where the child ages is and what they are and aren’t doing.
