Was Hernando Cortez a good or evil man? This debate has been argued over the years and still is today. Those who say Cortez is an evil man seem to focus singularly on the actions that the great Spanish conquistador has inflicted upon the Aztecs and the surrounding Indians. Not once do they look at the reasons why he performed the actions that many say were horrible acts of violence and manslaughter. These accusations of greed and murder of the Aztecs, as well as his own against Cortez have been corrupted in order to give a false and savage image of this great Spanish man. Hernando Cortez was, in fact, a great man contrary to what most is taught to believe.…

The following movies that I decide on were Straight Outta Compton “NWA” Directed by F. Gary Gray and My Cousin Vinny Directed by Jonathan Lynn. Both films have their differences as NWA faces police harassment in 1987, and later caught the attention of the Federal Bureau of Investigation to put a stop to discriminating local police officer. But in NWA reasons were to inform the people about police brutality and racial profiling, and in its lyrics quickly said consider the use of violence against police. While My Uncle Vinny film displays a good case of the relationship between language and context in verbal communication.…

First let me start off by saying that the movie My Cousin Vinny is a classic movie and is a good comedy. With that being said I think this movie did a good job of giving people a little taste of the insight that actually goes into the criminal justice system. Throughout this essay I will be explaining how the way the movie portrayed the Criminal justice system is wrong and right in some cases. Along with that I will put in my two senses on how the situation would or should have been handled in our present time in day. This movie is based around Billy and Stan being accused of a murder at a gas station in Alabama.…

My grandmother was indeed her biological mother, but she did not raise her, nor did she really know her. The relationship my mother had with my grandmother was closer to what people would have with an estranged relative that you only saw a couple times a year. To make matters worse, my grandmother had also remarried a man who was not very fond of my mother and her little brother Arturo. After coming to America my mother’s style of living completely changed. My grandmother was excessively strict and quick to discipline when angered. This was very different compared to how my mom and uncle were raised in Guatemala. Back home, everyone spoke to them in gentle, loving manner. Soon enough, my grandmother had two more children with her new husband. My mom and her little brother felt like outcasts. Both of their parents had started new families and it was clear that they stood in the way of their parent’s new beginnings. Even though my mother and uncle had no say in the matter they came to live their new, strange, life in the United States as illegal…

Immediately after reading this quote, all I could visualize was the discomfort and hard work my dad has consumed. Although he wasn’t born in America, the dedication he has accomplished to reach the American Dream has been a journey I have witnessed. Having been born in America was just a head start to my own journey. Working hard for a better future is something that has been ingrained in me by my immigrant father. As a young child, I witnessed my father’s tireless work ethic and drive to accomplish his goals of becoming a proud and productive American citizen. My favorite childhood memory was when he was granted his American citizenship, it was then I realized it does not matter who you are or where you come from. This quote does not only…
