My Strength When Working With Residents
- During my experience I believe that I showed all my strengths when working with the residents. My internal strengths showed that I am an outgoing person. I love to interact with a diverse group of people. I got to work with each individual and get to know a personal aspect of their life. I really enjoy helping others and putting a smile on peoples face. In the sessions when I see that a resident wasn't in a good mood or upset I would always make a joke or dance to help them smile. I showed my passion to help others in each session when my residents needed help or further explanation with the activity. I showed courage and determination when I believed in my clients and trusted in them to give there all in the activity they participated

I can remember an incident with a patient of mine. I was the Director of Nurses at the nursing home where this incident occurred. It was right after breakfast and her call light came on. I went into the room and I asked her if I could help her. She stated to me, “I need to go to the bathroom, but you are the Director of Nurses, you don’t need to help me.” I replied, “I am a nurse, it does not matter what my title is. I am here to help you.” She gave me the biggest smile and I helped her to the bathroom and then back into her wheelchair. I know that there are many areas in which I need to improve in order to be a successful therapist. I will need to continue to grow as a person and become more aware of my shortcomings and how I come across to others. Another area in which I need to improve is to pay more attention to details. As a nurse, I read fast and skim over the important parts, sometimes missing vital information. In order to be an effective clinician I will have to become very detail…

At first I was very nervous to apply as a volunteer and had doubts about being hired. After a long process of applications, interviews, and trainings, I was assigned to work at 6-CD on Geriatric floor. While I was volunteering there I met with different people, nurses, doctors, and pharmacy technicians. Seeing the pace of work they work in made me realize how important it is to work in healthcare. For me, the most significant issue was to get the used to patients who have passed away. I have seen a situation where a nurse and a doctor telling a family member that their father has passed away. At first I hesitated and asked myself if I am brave enough to do the same in future. As I volunteered there I realized I got used to everything, I was able to handle…

    1. How would you describe your role in your current position and your educational preparation for this role? “Being a Masters trained nurse allows me to obtain advanced level positions within the field of study I love. I have leadership and educational nursing experience gained through the MSN program coupled with my personal nursing experience within hospice. It is my job to hire nurses and ensure they are properly trained and set for success within our company. I also have the skills and knowledge needed to assess potential patients and determine whether they meet criteria. Once we’ve admitted the patient, I am responsible for placing that patient on a team that I fell best fits that patients individual needs.” 2. How would you explain the unique contributions you as a nurse bring to an interdisciplinary team?“I believe we all have something special to bring to the team, but if I were to focus on my skills and attributes, I would say I have the training and knowledge needed to assess and treat the clients we serve. Being the clinical director for this office allows me the ability to hire and supervise nursing staff that I feel have the skills needed to ensure our patients and families are cared for in the best possible manner.”…

I was able to learn about the importance of effective medical education and communication with my patients through creating nutrition materials on the different food groups and chronic ailments such as diabetes, hypertension, and heart attacks as well as consulting with patients weekly to find out what they needed and desired to improve their health and how I could direct them to their needs. At Haven, I exchanged ideas with each of my patients on how they and their families can live healthier lives as I learned about their diverse lives and tried to make sense of it for them and others. Haven taught me how to become an effective listener, a fast learner, and an effective deliberator within a healthcare setting and serves as the foundation of those skills in my upcoming medical…

I worked in the imaging department, alongside many professionals for 14 days. The most useful skill I gained from there was my enhancement in communication and confidence in my patient approach. I spent a lot of time with patients as I was responsible for calling out the patient’s name from the waiting room and assisting them to the room they needed to be in. I noticed that most patients had a fearful look on their face, after I engaged in a conversation they seemed much more at ease. That was when I realised the importance of patient communication and how much of an effect it has on their experience at the hospital.…

During the second half of the semester I showed strengths by recognizing my own limits and seeking assistance/guidance, seeking out opportunities, reflecting on my own nursing practice and keeping open communication with my instructor and RN. During one of my shifts, I worked with client who wanted to change but was hooked up to a VAC. I recognized that I wasn’t educated on VACs, and was unsure as to whether I could unplug it so she could change. I sought out a RN and charge nurse to help me figure out how to do this. After being guided through the process of what to do, I was able to help the client change. I have also taken the opportunity to reflect on my own nursing practice through my RPN’s. My RPN’s have showed a thorough analysis of my feelings and questions that arise throughout my shifts. In addition, I always make sure to stay in touch with my client’s nurse and my instructor throughout my shift. I chart off at the end of each shift and give report to the nurse. I also took an opportunity to empty a Blake drain on a client who was not my own. I had the RN guide me through it, as it was my first time performing this task.…
