My Trip to the Dominican Republic
Everyone wants to take a trip to an exotic place like; Australia, Brazil, or maybe even the Dominican Republic. Its just something that is on people’s minds because they want to travel somewhere besides what they have already seen. I took that exotic trip to the Dominican Republic and it was definitely life changing. It was a different experience compared to what I had seen in the United States. Everything there was so beautiful but it was also hard to see all the poverty in some parts of the Dominican Republic. The Dominican Republic was a vacation I will never forget because all the beautiful things that stood out there. Some of the stuff that was very cool about that place was how everyone there was kind-hearted and how they were all so happy no matter what. The people who went on this trip for eight nights and nine days were; my mom, my twin brother, and my aunt. We all knew it was going to be a different experience from all the other vacations that we have ever taken. It was a weary decision to go to the Dominican because Haiti is on the other side of that Island. Haiti is where the that horrible Hurricane happened and that happened a couple years ago (they are still cleaning up til this day). Its hard to go some where on vacation knowing that we were on the other side of Haiti, but we couldn’t help them because the resort said it was still pretty unsafe to go over on that side of the Island. Although the surroundings were all different, the island was super pretty! The sun was so bright and it felt like a sauna everyday. We would go to breakfast at around nine am everyday otherwise we couldn’t eat til later since they had a certain time everyone would eat at. The food was so fresh and delicious, I ate pineapple all the time because it was so juicy and good! After that we would head to the beach and boy was it super hot, we all felt like we were cooking in an oven. I would put on so much sunscreen just to not get burnt but even though I did that, I

In Leif Jensen’s article, “Ethnic Identities, Language, and Economic Outcomes among Dominicans in a New Destination,” Jensen observes Dominican immigrants, who migrated to Reading, Pennsylvania from the Dominican Republic, and how they identify themselves in America. He and his fellow researchers start their observations by giving some of the Dominicans, in Reading, surveys about their homes, health, stress, migration history, and other things. They find that 7.6 percent of Reading’s population is Hispanic, which is double Harrisburg’s percentage (Harrisburg is the community with the next closest percentage of Hispanics). They also used open-ended questions concerning race to give the respondents the opportunity to indicate how they classify…

The Dominican Republic, Punta Cana Is one of the most glorious places I've ever had ever visited; I felt like I was in a lush tropical island paradise. After getting off, the plane walking into a hut of an airport, I felt excited and nervous to be in a foreign country. My husband and I were greeted upon arrival to the resort with a cold washcloth and a glass of champagne, I felt like a queen. A couple of days later we had a Remarriage vow ceremony for our fifteen wedding anniversary on the beach. Everything…

I’ve been on a few memorable vacations in my life, but my trip to Cozumel, Mexico was by far, the most memorable. Sure, I was on my honeymoon, so that helped make it amazing, but the sites and culture we experienced is what really made the trip. We only spent one day in Mexico because it was part of a cruise, but it was a very unforgettable and engrossing day.…

Living back in the Dominican Republic I used to have a very easy life. Then I was living in my grandparents’ house in the suburb; where everything was very repeatedly: Wake up, eat, go to school, go back home, eat, do homework, play, eat once again and go back to sleep. Weekends were my favorites though; every Sunday we would go out for lunch, which usually I would be the one to pick, and as an usual seven-eight years old child my favorite thing back then was Pizza.…

The Dominican Republic, known for its beautiful beaches and balmy weather, was the last place I ever imagined I would find myself in this past summer vacation. On this week long trip, it wasn't for the warm ocean waves or the traditional Dominican cuisine I was called to, I was called to serve the beautiful Dominican people. On the third day of the trip, instead of heading out to the worksite where we had been pouring the concrete footers of a plastics and water filter factory, I opted to travel with a group to the childrens' cancer ward in Santiago and visit the patients. We started out our visit by performing a few dances we had taught our vacation bible school and handing out fun little gift we had brought with us. We played ball with some…

The best trip I have ever went on was when my family and I went to Punta Cana, Dominican Republic. My aunt was getting married and my mom’s side of the family was invited to come. We got to go on this vacation last February. We left very early one morning and we went to the airport. It was very cold and the air was very dry. We got to the airport in Sioux Falls and we went through security and waited to get on the plane. Once we finally got on the plane I was very excited to get there. We had a connection in Minneapolis and we had a direct flight from Minneapolis all the way to Punta Cana. Once we finally got to Punta Cana, we were getting off the plane and I could feel the humid, warm air. We had to wait in a very long line to go through customs. After that, we got on a taxi that took us to our resort. The roads in the Dominican Republic are not much different from the roads in the U.S. They still had stop lights, billboards, and the same traffic rules. One big difference we saw on the way to the…

Four years ago, my family and I landed on the most beautiful island, the Bahamas, it was unbelievable. It was an amazing feeling getting to see and experience all the things that were in the Bahamas. At the hotel, that we reserved, they had an amazing buffet at dinner time. They had different types of seafood that I have never tried before. The bathrooms were enormous, it had a shower on the side and a tub in the middle of the bathroom. The view that we had of the ocean and water parks was outstanding. You can see the ocean is a true-blue color. The hotel was nothing compared to the hotels in the United States.…

I came to this country at a very early age, during that time I could only identify with what I already knew. I knew that I was female and that my only language was Spanish because it is what my parents understood and spoke to me. Now that I have been living here for many years, I identify as Dominican-American. For the most part, identifying as an American because I gained citizenship in my early twenties. I also identify as a Hispanic.…

I sat at the resort’s buffet with my mom, grandparents, and my brother, while we were relaxed and we enjoyed ourselves. I could smell the salt from the seawater of Gulf of Mexico, it was a rather odd smell, it smelt bitter, fresh, and clean all at the same time. The smell was somewhat pleasurable, and was very distinct. Every morning, in the resort, I woke up to the smell of it, which was something I definitely get used to.…
