Beginning in 1981, the program called My Turn, originally only offered college courses for credit but quickly developed into multidimensional activities for older learners including opportunities to mentor and volunteer in a variety of settings.
Through the years, Dr. Ginsberg has been recognized for her work and dedication to adult learning. The program has been recognized by many national organizations such as AARP, Dr. Ginsberg received the Outstanding Achievement in Commuter Student and Adult Learner Award for the American College Personnel Association in 1992. The Association for Continuing Higher Education named the My Turn Program as The National Model Program, 1994, for both the United States and Canada. Dr. Ginsberg had the privilege of traveling to different cities to speak about the program as well as represent My Turn at the New York State and White House Conference on Aging. Late Adulthood is a time in people’s lives when they come to terms with their lives and reevaluate what they have done or accomplished in the lieu of what they still would like to accomplish for the remainder of their lives. During this stage of life adults around the ages of 65 begin to experience a variety of changes in their physical appearance and a decline in their health. The process of aging in an individual occurs at different speeds and during this stage older adults are being treated as second-class citizens especially by younger adults. The skin begins to wrinkle at an accelerated rate, the senses lose their acuity, and the voice becomes less powerful. Other physical changes occur like the loss of teeth, bones become brittle, joints become stiff, and the graying of hair.…
