My Two Major Essay
I am attending WPU to get my degree with not one major but two. My two majors being Criminal Justice/Criminology and Psychology. Ever since I was very little I have always wanted to be involved with law enforcement like careers or careers that I personally will be able to help someone who truly needs it. I have always been a girl who puts others before myself so picking these two majors will let me succeed and be happy with what I do which is helping people in general. The first major is Criminal Justice/Criminology. What I have learned from this major is that my major is actually under the Sociology Department and that by having a degree in criminal justice and criminology that I can be anything I want to be in law enforcement. A police officer is someone who upholds the law and help protect and makes citizens in their area safe. There are multiple types of police officers that rank from patrol to parole officers to campus police officers, to homicide detective. In order to become a homicide detective I would have to rank up from cop to detective than from detective to homicide detective. The ranking up process takes a long time due to the fact that you need to have high expertise. Not only do you need high expertise you need to have a degree in order to be able to rank up a little faster than people who are straight out of the academy. on average it takes about six to seven years to become a detective. Not only does it take a long time it is very hard to do due to the fact you have to have to have practically perfect mental health. If you do not have perfect mental health you will most likely never be able to come a homicide detective because it will most likely be too much to handle.Homicide detectives solve murder cases, collect evidence at the crime scenes, run fingerprints, interrogate witnesses/victims/criminals, they testify in court for the cases they were on, arrest individuals with misdemeanor/felony charges, etc. Only bad thing about being a homicide detective is the toll it takes on a person. There are five basic branches of psychology here at WPU. The five are human development, cognition, social psychology, physiological psychology, and clinical psychology. Students here are also allowed to perform research studies with professors, and faculty or even by themselves in specific concentrations like interpersonal relationships, mental illness, psychotherapy, perception, learning, brain-behavior relationships, neuropsychology, aging, political behavior and so much more. Also students who are seniors are allowed to apply for internships. By applying to internships it will help out of college to get a job due to the fact you have
