My Winning Speech at an Award
MY SPEECH AT IB AWARDS 2012, LEAD CITY UNIVERSITY
A SPEECH DELIVERED BY OSUNRINDE TEMIDAYO JOHN
(OVERALL BEST POET IN THE IB POETRY AWARDS 2011)
AT THE THIRD EDITION OF THE IB POETRY AWARDS ADELINE HALL LEAD CITY UNIVERSITY
The Royal father of the day, OBA SAMUEL OSUNDINA ODULANA ODUGADE 1, the Olubadan of Ibadan land, the president federal republic of Nigeria, honorable minister for education, the Executive Governor of Oyo state, Senator Isiaka Abiola Ajimobi, Oyo state first lady, Mrs. Florence Ajimobi, the honorable commissioner for Youths and Sports, Mr. Dapo Lam-Adesina, uk high commissioner to Nigeria, and Nigeria high commissioner to united kingdom, common wealth representatives ,distinguished members of the high table, the Chairman, Inspiring Brilliance, Mr. Kolawole Beyioku, chiefs, elders, my HOD Dr Adebo, my wonderful parents, parents, great poets and budding poets here present, ladies and gentlemen.
Today, I stand before you not just as the proud winner of IB poetry awards 2011, but as a representative of Nigerian youth, a Nigerian futurist and a chronic pan africanist who has decided to bring out the best of his talent in poetry and writing. And if there is anyone out here who still doubts what the good book says about the talent of a man, that the talent of a man maketh way for him and he shall stand before kings and not mean men, who still wonders if the dream of our fore fathers is alive in our time; who still question the power of our pen, today is your answer.
It's the answer told by scribbled lines written by our black indigenous talented house hold names on the field of literary arts, by people nations, creeds, races, ethnics have seen; by people who have made fame and fortune writing for pleasure and fun, people like JP CLARK, PROF NIYI OSUNDARE,CHIMANDA ADICHE and the enigmatic professor of professors WOLE SOYINKA they all maximized their potentials and became forces to be reckoned with universally, no doubt they are all talented
